Now that the Great Eastern Cutlery website posts the production totals from past years (at least through 2009) it is fun to see how many of each were made. Low totals could be from rare materials, or they just didn't think they would sell very many in a certain material.

Whatever the cause, it's interesting to see some of the rare ones. Here are the ones I have with fewer than 35 made, serial numbered and unserialized combined.

Oddly enough, the Pioneer is #06 of only 5 made. I contacted Christine at GEC, and she said they did not make a #01, which they usually do.

I know some of you fellas collect patterns I don't, so post up your pics of the rare ones you've got.

My records show that there were only 14 of these 440C Ox Horn Pioneers made in 2008.

Not a terribly interesting handle material, but they only made 35 of these #73's with Almond Bone in '08.

It's pretty amazing to look through the list and see that they only made one or two of some models. It almost doesn't seem worth the effort, but I bet the collectors like it.

Love that 2nd cut smooth bone stockman.
It looks pretty darn good!

Most people would probably think that a serialized knife would be more valuable than a non-serialized knife but that's not necessarily the case. In some models/handle configurations there were far fewer non-serialized knives made than serialized knives thereby making the non-serialized knives more valuable than the serialized knives.

I have always liked the look of that appaloosa bone in pictures.

Here are a couple that I believe were "short runs:"

Rick, That Ox horn looks great!!

Government, I believe there were only 4 of those tortoise acrylic #61s made. Very nice!!

I think this one qualifies although I don't know the exact number yet. Its a short run that's still available.

Heres a couple more recent short runs -
an 89 and a 33 in tortoise shell, the 89 being one of 8 and the 33 one of 28

neeman, go to the link below, then click on the "Information" tab just above the "Search" text box, right center of the screen. Select the year you want to check, and go from there.

Christine Tucker of GEC says the 2010 production totals should be available in a few weeks.

Mamba, that Carved Pumpkin Bone is delicious looking.:D Wish they'd do some more knives in that material. But, that's one of the things that makes GEC so interesting:their indivduality Very interesting thread thank you.

Arathol, you showed the Tortoisehells, it's really a fantastic acrylic. So, you have a Conductor one of 28, so do I and I suspect the only one in Europe, boast :thumbup:Mine's in use and the Clip blade amazingly sturdy for a small knife, one of my recent favourites for sure

Willgoy, the carved pumpkin is really handsome. They made one in the exact same jigging (stag bone) but green, called green mountain, and made only 9 unserialized. I lost the bidding on one just a couple months back on the auction site (DANG!!).

Rob, they just released some new Cubans in snakewood in the Northfield line with 1095 and pinched, slanted bolsters and cloud shield if you're interested. Might still be some left at the distributors.

Arathol and Government, the tortoise looks terrific-- I only wish they made a run in the #53 pattern, or in the #56 Dogleg, but with the pen in front on the mark side.
