Rare GECs

Trand, I just picked one of those up after the 2010 production totals came out today. Only 9 made unserialized in smooth ram horn.

Great score Jeff!! The smooth stuff is great but some gnarly horn would be nice too.

Trand...that is one very slick looking knife!! Just what is the scale material used...is this a smooth horn?
Arathol...those two tortoise shells are just beautifull knives...what a joy to see the knives in this forum, this knife company is just getting better and better
Great thread there Jeff, and what awesome knives!...that smooth Rams horn, along with the pumpkin...whew!

That's correct Duncan.

Good grief..sometimes I should just jamb the toast in my mouth a little harder before I spout off...I apologize Trand, as I hadnt realised Jeff had already cleared this question up before I had even asked this :o ( above )

Here's a Beaver Tail #GEC720110 numbered 21 of 25 made.

Well, when the 2010 Production figures came out I went a little nuts. I really like the rare ones, but only if it's a pattern I like anyway.

Four new ones came in this week which I can add to this thread.

Tidioute Ram Horn #48 Traditional Trapper, 1 of 9 unserialized pieces, and
Tidioute Cocobolo Rosewood #73 Scout Jack, 1 of 35 serialized knives

Tidioute Copper Melt Acrylic #73 Scout, 1 of only 8 unserialized pieces, and
Tidioute Red Abalone Looking Glass #53 Muskrat Furtaker, 1 of only 4 unserialized knives

I'm glad you were able to get one of those Ram's horn tappers Jeff. I really like that Cocobolo Jack too. I love those deep reds.

Don't know if one could call this one rare, but it was hard for me to track down one with the pronounced jig-saw pattern I wanted.......still looking for that Kryptonite one though :)

Hi Mike,

If its marked #538308 then there are 43 serialized pieces out there according to the '08 production totals. I checked '07-'10 and that one was the only Lava Lamp version made as far as I can tell. Pretty cool!!

Couple of short run #48s. Jack in Snakewood and a Western Trapper in Rosewood. I don't know the exact numbers though.
#481211ECJ Jack Snakewood 1 of 5 no serial number
#481211WT Western Trapper Rosewood 1 of 5 no serial number

My son, Tyler, has this GEC. I couldn't find it in the production totals. It's unserialized. The number is #735208 that's done in Smooth Cherry bone. Anyone know how many of these were made?

OK thay made 150 of it so it's not that "rare" as many others here but I believe I saw very few around here so it's maybe rare to see?
the rarity may be given by the fact that it's handles are the only ones where GEC used canvas rucarta/micarta? and on of 2 in micarta synthetics? instead of bone/stag/wood/acrylics?
73 in canvas rucarta, 2007 production
I have #061 and #102

hope ya like it and hope it can find a small space in this thread

I can't find mine on the GEC blog. It's a Northfield #33 conductor with buffalo handles. Anyone know the production total?

They do show a #73EC (end cap, which yours has) in smooth cherry bone with only 8 pieces serialized. It's probably a misprint, I've found a few others. Contact Christine by her email on the GEC website and ask-- it was probably 8 pieces UNserialized.

In 2007 GEC made 2 Trappers for the new owners of the Schrade branding which are marked on the tang: Schrade Cut. Co./Walden/Made in U.S.A., and were marketed with the slogan "Fire & Ice Tempered". 400 of each size were made but they didn't sell well so are not often seen. I bought these 2 recently on ebay for just under $50 each. These are superbly well made knives. I say 2 of the best GEC's of all, and all 4 of the blades are hair poppin sharp !

SUSA3S is the smaller knife at 3 3/4". The SUSA2 is 4 1/2"

For less than $50 these are the best deal for a 2 blade GEC. You can still find sellers with these on ebay if you want one. You will not be disappointed whatsoever.
