I recently got a display case from a hardware store and have easily found most of the knives for it, but I have had trouble finding three of the knives. The knives are the AP35, SX4, and the SX23. I have found them on ebay but they are the new china knives. I was just wondering if anyone knew how many of these were made or the chances of them popping up on ebay anytime soon.
Thanks

The AP35 I have was made in Ireland (I think without digging it out). All the SX4S I have seen were made in China for Schrade. You may possibly find an old stock one at a K-mart. If not let me know, I have extras. I have a SX4B, all black including the blade, that was made in Ireland, the others I have seen were all made in China.
I don't have a SX23, but I Understand most all the SX series were made in China. I think my one Irish one may be a fluke.

I was very fortunate to get my hands on a SX4B tang stamped Schrade+ over Ireland over stainless as well as both the SX21 and SX23 both made in Ireland. The SX23 I purchased was once a display model in a hardware store and it was the only one I have seen that was not made in China. K-Mart has several of the SX4B's left but all are tang stamped made in China but for Schrade. It took me almost 2 years to find the SX23 made in Ireland and not China so keep on hunting for them. They will show up sometime. Jamie.

Jamie,
That is nice to know. I have a SX21 form China, but no SX23, I will keep looking for the Irish versions.

Thanks,
Dale

Thanks for the info guys, that sucks that even before taylor took over some of the knives were made in china, I had no idea.

Do you guys know how many other knives that Schrade produced were made in china 1904-2004?

I've been meaning to get to Kmart to see if they had anything left but I've been too busy. Hopefully I'll be able to make it this weekend. I did notice that you can still order the SH3DU online at the kmart website but thats all they had online.

Once again thanks for all your help,
cykc

Other than the badger series I am not sure that any whole knives were. Components of quite a few had been sourced there for a while, and printed packaging too. If I remember correctly, some of the missing 2004 knives were to be produced there but ran into "production difficulties", preventing delivery before August of 2004. I may have mis-remembered and the reference was to components of those knives, but I don't think so. One in particular I am thinking of is the XT4, and another is the titanium knives.

Maybe someone here has more up to date information on this. I would be interested in the answers myself.

There is one other knife I know of that was made in china, the SSK5, Super Knife. It is a folding knife that takes a utility knife blade. Smokey still has it on their web site:
http://www.eknifeworks.com/webapp/e...ext=&list=50&range=1&order=Default&SKU=SCSSK5

There is also a SSK5B, (same knife in black) that is listed in one of the catalogs I have, I would assume it too was made in China, but I have not seen one to know for sure. I ordered a SSK5 from Smokey last year, and was disappointed to see that China was stamped on it and Schrade's name was not on it.

Right you are. And if I remember correctly, it too was first made in Ireland. I don't have one of each to compare, but I remember reading that the Irish version was the lesser of the two? Design or finish differences?

How about the Schrade Double Eagles, didn't Schrade import these from China?

Here is the fixed blade sx23 we're seeking. But this is a china made one. I do not know if it ever made it into production in Ireland.

The Schrade Double Eagle DBL2 was a scaled down version of the BT01, not the knife shown here. It was made in the US.

I almost forgot about these imports from China. I wonder why?

Has the Kitchen Aid series of knives ever been discussed on this forum. They were forged kitchen cutlery made in Ellenville that competed with Henkle and Wustof.

We discussed them but no one had a pict to show us.
I would love to see them.

There were evidently a couple of series of the KitchenAid knives. Here is a factory blank of the Chef knife, and a picture of a finished knife with slightly different bolster and handle design.

I can't find a picture of the entire series yet. Perhaps it was in a specialty brochure I am yet to find. I'll dig.

The raw forging shown does not appear to be part of the kitchenaid line. It may have been a sample from a forging company. There were two lines: Epicurean and Ultra. The Epicurean line had a full tang with riveted on covers. The Ultra line had a dagger style tang and was pressed into the handle. The picture of the finished knife is of this line. Both series had an 8" chef's knife, an 8" slicer, an 8" bread knife, a boning knife, a sandwhich knife, a parer, a tomato / bagel knife and steak knives.
