I have a 28 Year Anniversary Edition Mark IV (one piece). The wifey asked me why it was in the "big" safe in the house instead of the "small" safe in the shop with most of my other knives. I told her about the 28 year annie, and that Chris only made 250, etc. She asked, just how rare is it (rare to her means expensive.LOL). Hmmm.
I checked the past threads and found one from 2011 on this subject. Now it's 2013. IKCA says it's 9.5 ot of 10 on the rare scale and almost ghost like.
So, what is the rarest CRK ever? I would qualify that question with taking the one offs and two offs out of the equation. We all know Chris has made those over the years for friends and others. I'm asking what is the most rare CRK knife that was produced in smaller quantities larger than those special builds. Lets also seperate the South African handmade from the American made "production" models.
Let the games begin............

A South African....... Dagger #24 of 25

A USA.......Kathathu 1 of 100 made.

BOTH KNIVES ROCK!! AND GUESS WHAT BOTH KNIVES CAME FROM ME!! LOL! (or from my friend),. WISH I COULD HAVE KEPT THEM!

WONDER IF ANY ONE HAS THOSE CHRIS REEVE SEBI GOLD COINS or FREYAs OR CHRIS REEVE SHORT SWORDS??

Those are super rare!

The big one on top is 18" overall, 12.5" blade, #8 of 13.

Wow, those are some great looking blades. It is very interesting seeing all of his designs as he is now and always will be known for the Sebenza and that is very popular, but the South African designs are unique and very cool.

One of the rarest is the One Piece Knife Gladius-Like Sword. I believe they only made 5.

My rarest is my large regular mosiac damascus sebenza. They only made 12.

The "scout" is a pretty rare knife, even though it wasn't ever actually made by CRK. :p

Interesting question about rarity. The factors driving scarcity that come to my mind are:
  • How few were actually produced (population increase)
  • How long they've been out of production (population reduction via loss)
  • How "consumable" they were from a practical standpoint. (Product use, as opposed to residing in a collection, would drive population reduction via loss or wearout/breakage)

My rarest CRK would be this one:

It's part of the first production run of 40 one-piece knives that Chris produced in South Africa. They were the predecessor to the Mark IV's before the name of the knife was established. (As such, it's one of the knives that Hale Storm's 28th Aniv. knife is commemorating.) You can identify these knives by their hilts, which were milled straight as opposed to curved. When Chris sold these knives, he was not an established maker, these knives were not expensive, and thus, virtually all of them were likely users. I've been looking for another one of these ever since I became aware of their existence, with no success.

One is for sale in the Exchange right now, a Dot Matrix Damascus Sebenza. It's quite possibly the only one with this Damascus. Devin supposedly gave Chris a small sample of this Damascus and apparently this knife was made from that sample.

I was prompted to browes the Bay after looking at this thread. There are a number of very rare, very cool CRKs, including at least one of the hollow handle "swords".

How did I not know about these things?!

THIS was the CRK Gladius-Like Sword I was talking about. They only made 5 from what I understand. Wish I had one. I think someone stated in a thread long ago that they paid like $5k. Definitely the KING Of the One Piece Knives don't ya think....???

Here is the pic. Its not my picture, but have seen it on the forums many times over the years. Whomever took it. Thank You....!!!

Wooooow...

That may be the coolest CRK I've ever laid eyes on.

As crazy as it may sound (not as crazy on the CRK board :p ), I think that just might warrant $5,000. I don't say that about many knives. It's terribly impractical, I'm struggling to see a real benefit to using it in any capacity, but if I won the lottery I think I'd consider it...

Then I donate the money to charity instead. :(

I remember seeing one of those at the CRK shop. It must have been in for spa treatment. Extraordinary . . .

I use all of my knives and certainly to not baby my CRKs (plain jane large Insingo and a 25). IfI had something this nice I might be tempted to have a safe queen. That is truly an terrific looking knife. Count me as one of the many jealous people looking through this thread.
