rarest?

Hmm, I wonder what chuck would use to kill someone?!?

I asked about a spring latch on the BM forum under ChungSan's post "New Bali!". Maybe BM will reply.

Please remember CG gets certain bits of information that he wouldn't get if he didn't agree to not divulge until given the okay. If he were to lose this privilege, we lose our "distant early warning" balisong hints.
It is not uncommon in industry to unveil new technology in limited quantities at first, and then eventually introduce same as mainstream. You, fellow balisongians, can "do the math".

I love the Bubblegum series!:D I even drew a two page picture (with good likeness mind you) of Priss zipping up her leathers as she's heading out for a bike ride! DAMN, IF ONLY I WHERE A CARTOON!:D

email it to me :)
I'm not into the cutie cutie anime but I'm sure we all went thru the bubblegum phase before graduating to bastard!! and fist of north star :)

(okay end rable before this turns into non related thread.)

Here's a couple of Benchmades that I feel is rare and hard to find. I'm not sure what model these are, but my husband and I have two of them. Both have 3 in. blades. The half serrated one is numbered 34/100 and the plain edged one is 144/200. The only ones of these that I've ever saw is the two that we have. Maybe Chuck has some more information to share with you all on this one. Here's two rare ones!

Here's a PC 129 with a B-S USA 3" for scale.

I'm almost 100% positive they did not leave the factory in those conditions. They look like a Model 30 and 30s that got some annealing applied to them, as these were steel handles and blades. Not sure what that did to the temper of the steel.

I'm real curious about these.

I'm not so sure about the top one being a 30... the grind seems to go all the way to the spine almost, but that could just be the light playing tricks.

Sorry, edited for ambiguity

No, I meant the coloration.

oh well, makes my reply redundant. I can't seem to delete this.

My husband bought one of these knives NIB from a knife store in the mid-90s for $80. If they did not come from the factory colored that way, where between the factory and the store would they have been colored? The second knife we found about 6 months ago at a local knife store that someone had used as a trade-in. Find someone that knows more about the knife, but we feel that they came from the factory this way.

They did come from the factory that way and they are limited. They aren't ultra rare, but you don't see those at the store everyday either. Chuck or S. or someone else can tell you more about it.

Mid 90's is just about when I lost track of what came out of BM. If they did come out of the factory I'm very curious about the colorzation process. I suspect annealing, which would re-temper the steel. Not typically something that a knife company would do to one of their warrantied blades.

Waiting on the experts to tell us more.

I have one one of these 30's, and actually had a second a while back that unfortunately was stolen. The one i have now is pretty much NIB and is numbered 24/200...the other was i believe 94/100. I have heard a number of different versions of their history, but i'm pretty sure it's that BM did a limited run for a certain distributor and therefor were colored at BM. As for the coloring, i'm pretty sure it's oxidation...it will come off after time. hope this helps...

for the life of me I wish I had the dates and the peple responsible so I would have a scooby doo conclusion without reasonable doubt...

anyways a box of blades was bought by an independent distributor.. ala 'cutlery shoppe' back in the 80's to my knowledge they only modified and stamped model 30's.

Benchmade (ofcourse) denies existence of these things and officially refer to them as an unliscenced modification and thus voids warranty.

many of these types of "collabs" between BM and distributors (mail order places happened officialy and unofficially)

the question woudl be were these 30s factory seconds that were modified for collectibility as many were done at that time. Though I am not sure of the term this colorizaion (anodizing?) if ou will was done with heat.. I read that somewhere and cannot prove it :)

Looks like i should have waited just a few more minutes to post so that snipe could go ahead and explain...thanx for the help:)
