RAT-3 Blade steel

How can I find out what my RAT-3 blade is made out of.Are the blades marked some where?Thanks for any info you may be able to give me.

all ESEE knives are 1095. if it says "ROWEN" on it, it is 1095.

What if it is an older one from about 6 years ago?

is it an ESEE or an older ontario? if it is made by ontario it could be D2. but if it says "ROWEN" it is an ESEE and in 1095.

does it have a maker or brand on it? if it says "rat-3" its a ontario those were 1095 or d2

If its an Ontario made Rat-3 it will be marked D-2 on the blade in the center of the rat logo other wise its 1095 on early models anyway

sure, it cant hurt at all.

but as mike macintosh just mentioned it would say D2 on the blade

this, for example, is a D2 model

Canvas micarta, looks like a 1095 model.

ont rat 3 with canvas scales were 1095 and phosphate coating
D2 had linen micarta with a gray tone to them and blade was powder coated
