RAT-3 Edge Grind?

Hi there,

I just received a RAT-3 that I ordered. Upon inspection, the edge is not at all symmetrical. It's not chisel grind but it's close. It is however, consistent along the length of the blade. Also, the U.S.A. embossing on one side of the blade is slightly hidden under the micarta. Did the guy send me a factory second or what? I paid full price and I'm not pleased if this is not par for this model.

Thanks.

Sorry to say so but, I've read that those with the USA partially under the scales are seconds. Mine is that way too but the grind is okay.

Thanks for the input. I contacted the dealer and my options are to return it to be fixed, or have it fixed locally and he'll take care of the charges. I'll live with it as-is until I can find a local cutler to redo the edge. The dealer is very reputable in this neck of the woods and I take his word that he did not buy it as a factory 2nd. These are the chances you take when you don't buy in-person, I guess. In any case, I like the knife, if not the fit and finish.

Thanks again folks.

Tapedeck 74,

Go to www.jungletraining.com and email Mike Perrin or Jeff Randall about your knife and I'll bet it will be taken care of. Some of the best customer service around. I wouldn't do anything to it until I gave those guys a holler.

It's clearly a factory mistake, mine came perfect. Send them an e-mail and see about getting it fixed or replaced.

I sent an email to Ontario Co. and got a reply from Mike Perrin.
He is resolving the problem beyond my satisfaction. It's great to see such great customer service.

When I inquired about factory seconds at the Ontario factory the person I spoke with said that the only thing he could find wrong with the RAT 3 seconds was the USA label partially hidden under the grip. I got two of them anyway. I'm in the process of changing the grind angle and stripping the coating off of one of them, but they appear to be great knives from the bit of work I put them through. Can't wait till they are scary sharp and out there doing what they do best.
