Rat 3 or Busse Game Warden

Thanks for explaining bro !

I was not implying that a blade of that size should be needed to go through steel as some were joking about above but I do require that my knives are able to batton through wood if required.
I recently managed to put a chip ( albeit real tiny ) in my Scrapyard Dumpster Mutt and that thing is a tank !
Some of the knots you encounter in some wood are as tough as steel and I don't want my knives chipping straight away !!!!

I say get the RAT3 (and I'm a big fan of Busse and own a bunch). But the RAT3 is a great little cutter and IMO better designed. I think a knife should either have no choil or one big enough so you can choke up on the handle. The GW doesn't fit that criterion, the RAT does.

BTW Pitdog, how hard was it to get the chip out of your DM?

Not hard at all bro, the chip or maybe roll, was so small that I just fetched it out with a knife steel, you can't even hardly feel it with you nail now !!!

So I'm looking for a smallish 3 in fixed blade to carry along on day hikes and while mountain biking. I purchased the NWA forum knife and love it. It is my backpacking and hunting companion, but a little big for shorter trips. So for general use is the Busse worth the extra $200 (with sheath) than the RAT 3? I wouldn't necessarily mind spending the extra money for the Busse, just trying to justify it, and thought I'd ask the experts. :)

I never thought to mention it when I posted before but another alternative to the two you mention would be a Fehrman Thru-Hiker, dare I say the steel might even be better than the Wardens INFI :foot: too late I have said it !!!

Of the 2 originally mentioned for this post and for the used described, I would say RAT3, I mtn bike a lot and the RAT has such a thin overall profile that it sits on your hip easier and packs away smaller. Both are awsome knives but if mountain biking is a big part of your decision i would definately go RAT, plus its cheaper.

I bet if you were to go to the Bussecompanystore (dot com) you would be able to find a game warden for 187. Thats a great deal. You wouldn't be disappointed. I am no expert though, either knife would be a fine hunting companion.
Not in stock. No knives in stock per Order Form.

Sacrilage! You might be right though. They are superb steel. I must get another...

There was a test done somewhere (big choppers) and the Ferhman actually came out slightly better than the Busse, including corrosion resistance. I've not pushed either steel hard enough myself to find the end points though. Probably not many of us ever will.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will eventually add the F1 to my modest collection, but that's won't be right now. $187 at the company store?? I will have to check that out. And yes I do carry a topeak alien with me, but the blade is...lacking.
