Packaging- (Izula without kit) The Izulas come in a clear plastic bag with Izula, sheath, RAT survival tips card, and a sheet of paper showing possible EDC options and how to assemble some parts if you got the kit. It also lists warranty and how to wrap you Izula.

My Initial Impressions- Light weight, handle was a little small, nice factory edge, a little hard to get out of the sheath, and dang what a beautiful coating.

Later Impressions- Parachute cord handle wrap is almost a must, it makes the handle and grip 100% better and adds nice looks. It isn't hard to sharpen and it keeps an edge for a good while. It gets easier to pull the Izula from the sheath with time. It can take one heck of a beating and keep asking for more.

Coating- Looks good, adds a little texture, on one side you have IZULA and the RAT logo and on the other side you have an ant and ROWEN. Also it is tough as heck, I was pleasantly surprised to see after some hard use (Whacking the spine to near the tip of the blade of the Izula with a piece of wood while batoning through some hard wood) that the Izula showed no marks or scratches on the coating.

Edge- on the 3 I received one's grind was higher than the others and gave it an almost scary sharp edge. The other two had a pretty nice edge. I have put the edge through some hard use and it has showed no signs of rolling, chipping, or rusting.

Jimping- The jimping is nice, it is not too aggressive, but it actual does do it job. Also I press my thumb against the sheath to remove my Izula and when it slides out my thumb lands on the jimping squarely, so good placement .

It is not a chopper, wasn't designed to be one and doesn't have the weight or blade shape to be one. It is ok at batoning as long as the blade is longer than the piece of wood you are trying to split.

Pros: Small size and light weight makes for a great EDC knife. It is affordable at around $50 without the kit. It is more durable and tougher than I thought it would be. It comes with the RAT warranty. Its blade shape make it very versatile and good for multiple chores. Rowen is great at heat treating 1095 steel. The sheath holds the Izula in nice and tight, and it is a very slim designed sheath. Also an OD green coating with ACU digi camo is about as good looking as some of the RAT models :D.

Cons: A longer handle would have been nice, at first it can be a little hard to remove the Izula from its sheath, and Izulas are like potato chips, it is hard to stop after one and if you let someone use it you spread the addiction.

Thanks for the contest Derrick,

Wait....what? Derrick, I swear, I didn't tell anyone about what happened to your......

Oh wait, you mean the knife...... Nevermind.

:D

In the pic of the Izula on my maxpediton backpack I wanted to write, "This is where she rides when she's not in my pants", but I figured it wouldn't be appropriate for this crowd. I guess I should have known better :p:D

No pictures of my messed up package....

BUT you guys can see some of your reviews showing up on my site here

http://www.knivesshipfree.com/ksfinfo/infoknifereview.html

I'll get more up soon.

Holy crap! Had I known you'd actually put those reviews up on your site I'd have taken a little more time with them! Oh well, that's what I get for being impatient and trying to write them while at work. Haha, thanks for setting up this contest. :D :thumbup:

I thought your reviews were just fine Bro.

What a cool idea for a contest. I was actually going to go into the yard today and confuse the neighbors by lighting a fire with the Rat Cutlery Molten Metal Globules Thrower and take some pictures for a quicky review tonight.

But, I got lazy.

Besides, better to let someone that doesnt have a RC-4 already get it.

Congrats to the winner and thanks for the contest.

ok...here is the winner.

I couldn't just decide, so I chose my top 5 and then used random.org to choose from among them. And the winner is.....

This is actually the first give-away I've ever won here. I'm so happy... no, I'm not going to cry. I'm even more pleased that an actual company thinks enough of my reviews to post one of them for the public to read. Thanks again for the give-away

What if you could have only one? That's a question that pops up pretty regularly on the knife forums, what if you could only have a single blade, used for everything you need a blade for, what would you chose?

Fortunately for us RAT cutlery fans, the choice was made pretty simple. The RC-4 is the sweetspot in the RAT lineup. With a cutting edge just a smidge over 4 inches and an overall length of 9 inches, it comes in dead center of the RAT line and puts it just on the upper edge of what most people find comfortable to carry everyday.

And if it's carry your interested in, the RC-4 comes with one of the best factory kydex sheaths on the market. With it's innovative unriveted, foldover design, the sheath can be taken apart and cleaned out with ease. It offers beyond multiple carry options, Molle back, Molle clip, paracord method, horizontal, vertical, you name it. It also features adjustable tension so you can custom fit the draw to your personal tastes.

Big enough for most woodworking tasks and thick enough to handle whatever you throw at it, the RC-4 makes for a fantastic bushcrafter or general woodworking knife. If it's game your after, the full flat grind gives the RC-4 better than expected slicing performance. Cleaning fish, deer, hog....the RC-4 handles it all.

If I'm going to get stuck with just one blade, I'll make sure it's the RC-4.
