A clip point blade is a bowie type blade where instead of having a gradual taper toward the tip it has an aggressive straight lined taper. Generally there is also a slight upturn toward the very end near the tip. As far as the benifits of having a swedge on the spine of the blade as pictured above...well it basically makes the tip a little more aggressive and helps it to penetrate by sharpening to a point not just along the edge but also along the spine. I suppose it could also be useful for cutting down the weight of the blade. I personally don't care much for swedges. I would rather just shave a little off of the edges of the spine to make a pointier "penetrator tip."
