RAT Cutlery Announces Name Change

I like the RAT name and wish Ontario would get their own damn trademark. It is so bad for business to keep using the trademarks and logos of a group that openly does not want to be affilliated with your company. Damn it makes me so angry. No Ontario for me. KNIFEABILITY-a must for all humans

I don't like the new name at all - - with the old name there was an image instantly created in your minds eye, but what's an 'ESEE' ? How do you pronounce it ? If it sounds like 'easy' that creates more confusion, what does that mean ? Something like 'Panther', 'Black Panther', or some other name that creates an instant mental picture & evokes the jungle woulda been better IMO. (Even 'E&E Knives'). - - - I'll still buy the knives though. Theyre tough, well designed , good value for the money, and do the job. In the end thats what I care about, and ultimately I don't give a rip what they call the thing as long as they offer a good knife. - - -

Same great product.

Good luck with the name change.

Informed buyers will buy ESEE.

I understand the reason for the name change, but man you guys couldn't have picked a worse name if you tried to on purpose! A brand-name is supposed to be catchy, easy to remember, and signify something relevant.

Most folks don't even know how you're supposed to pronounce the new name, let alone connect it with any real-world associations. Great knives, but less than zero marketing sense!

Give it some time man, geez.

I'm sure "Nike" and "Zerox" took a little time.

Companies change their names all the time, something unique that stands out in the marketplace is a good thing. How many folks will visit the website hoping to learn how to say the name?

As for the "less than zero marketing sense", Jeff and Mike run alot more sucessfull companies than I do, I almost think they might know what they're doing at this point.;)

Branding will follow if the products are good....in the case of ESEE I am confident it will catch on. Human are creatures of habit and does not like changes. Heck - RAT or ESEE - all I know is I am going to get another one - ESEE-3 maybe.

Better to have a good product and new brand than a lousy product with a known brand.

Please dont change the name again I cant afford another name change
I only just got over the first one

There seem to be several dealers out there that still have a supply of Rat Cutlery knives in stock. My question is -- If I'm trying to save a few dollars by purchasing knives with the old "Rat" logo, am I sacrificing quality in any way? In other words, have the knives been changed/upgraded since the name change?

No. And as far as I know dealers aren't selling any knives with the older logo at a discount. They are all made by Rowen... they are the same knife.

GREAT knives! I'm glad I'm not in the market for any more right now. I'd pay MORE for the old "Rat logo" knives! Maybe if ESSE comes out with something I HAVE to have I can get someone to change the ink on it for me! :)

10 years from now, when everyone knows them as ESEE knives, I'll be the one still referring to them as RATs, and no one will know WTF I am talking about:D:thumbup:.

I cant wait!

:D

Yeah, somebody asked me about my knife on my last hunting trip and I just said it was a "Rat knife." Sounds cool. "ESSE knife?" Never! :barf: I'm only buying an ESSE knife if I lose my Rats (and even then I'll try and find a Rat). They are still the best knives after all! :D
