Rat Cutlery ESEE 3 (RC3) and salt water fishing question.

Buy a kershaw fillet knife. People are saying go for H-1 but I think you would already have suggested a knife with that steel over the RC3. Since H-1 is a bit pricy and I don't know if you have 60-80$ to drop, I would just go with this fillet

Yes it's 420J but 420J is not absolutely terrible especially if you are going to just take this out once in a while. 420J is just as rust resistant as H-1 but comes at a much lower price. If your just catching a couple of fish, it will keep an edge long enough for you to get home. Plus it's just 10 bucks MSRP at that too!

I disagree. Especially if you use it with salt water and pack it wet, as the OP indicates.

The general experience I find is that 420J is as stain resistant as H-1 for all realistic purposes that your going to go through, which peoples general limit is just salt water. Maybe if you used electrolysis tests like what CPM does with their testing then yeah, you might be able to make a stain resistant difference between 420 and H-1. But for salt water which is probably going to be everyone's peak encounter with requiring stain resistance, then 420 will do as well as H-1.
