Rat Cutlery Folders?

I like the disc type thumb stud as well, but it'd be sweet to have a Spyder hole!

As for locks... Lockback I think would be best. Or a frame lock...

As much as I love 1095 steel, I'd rather have stainless for a folder. I tend to abuse my folders more and i wouldn't want to have to oil them much if at all. Don't forget about vg-10 steel

I agree with Jake on the lockback, but I also do like Gerber's frame lock on their para-knives--it's very simple and reliable too.

The big concern with VG-10 is that it's Japanese steel...so it would make it more costly to produce here in the 'states since it's super difficult to export steel from Japan. I personally feel that 154cm would be more than appropriate, though D2 wouldn't be bad either, given the right HT. :)

I think we all would like to see RAT make a folder. As far as the design goes, I am sure whatever Jeff and Mike come up with will be killer. I know whatever it looks like, I am sure to buy at least one.

Folders are good :) I wish I could make a folder but just cant get caught up enough to even attemt to learn that. I thing a simple 154 CPM StainlessFolder is the way to go. Brushed finish on the blade, liner lock.

Isnt 154 CPM american made steel too :)

I'd have to argue for a stonewashed finish. Never been a fan of brushed...it tends not to glide as well through a cut. :)

I think 154CM would be fine. I would also like to see a finish similar to that on the Izulas. Black, green and tan would be fine with me. Framelock with micarta or G10 scales and I would be sold.

I'm also a fan of smaller folders, so I would hope that the blade length be between 3 and 3.5 inches long. Failing that, I hope that a 'regular' size and a 'min' sized folder could be produced.

Didn't think of stonewashed. That woiuld work too :)

I second the motion for D2 with a good HT. I like folders with a little more corrosion resistance than 1095. 154CM would work good to keep the $ down, or you can go whole hog and do CPM S30V. Maybe get Paul Bos to do the HT :). Or not. Shon may get offended. Blade should be between 3.5 - 4". Good G10 textured scales.

I'm just blabbering. Whatever they do, I'll buy one. It'll rock.

Given his performance with 1095, I'd trust Shon to whip up something amazing HT-wise with just about anything! :D

Agreed:thumbup:
154CM is good stuff and D2 is good as well.

Jeff has said b4 that hed love to make it in VG10, but it is rather hard to get a hold of. As for a finish.. do NOT bead blast it. All the kershaws I have with BB finnish attract rust like nothing else.

What is the blade steel or model of these kershaws that you are having problems with?

Also I tend to rotate a couple of Kershaws through my rotation and haven't had a rust problem with them yet, how is 1095 holding up for you?

Most likely they were 13C26 Sandvik...they just switched over to the new 14C28N to fix that problem. There's even an article about it in the latest issue of Blade. :)

I have had no problems with any of my 1095 blades. I've had a few small spots on the edge of my Izula and on my old KA BAR USMC, but if they dont wipe off, they will come off with Lead away patches, or a touch up on the sharpener. (I keep them well oiled too).

Yep, my Kershaw Skyline with 13whatever developped rust spots from just being in my pocket for about a week. Never had any stainless blade do that (i generally dont oil my folders either). The mafia boys around here told me that it's the bead blast finish that actually attracts rust, and not the steel, which is fine but still doesnt make the blade look any prettier. So even though theres a new steel, if it's still BB finish, I'm not buying. There are just a couple barely noticeable spots on my 440A Leek as well. When the new 13whatever steel came out originally in the Storm and stormII, we had those in the knife store I worked at they attracted some SERIOUS rust spots on the blades just by sitting in a disply case. Didnt have a prob with anything else in that case.

I would love a RAT folder. I also would not have a problem with it being a little more pricey and make it a tank (like Strider or ZT...)

I really am not a fan of aluminum handles. Some nice textured G10 or Micarta with titanium liners and a good lockback design, hmmmmm...

Probably have my head in the sky, heh. Besides, as others have said, I'll buy one whatever it's like. It can only be awesome.

I would love for a stonewashed blade in some decent stainless. Will buy it in a heartbeat.

G-10 wouldnt be bad either...
