Shon sent me one of the first production knives to roll off the line. Of course they haven't been powder coated or engraved yet, but the photos here are of a finished neck knife except for the coating and engraving.

This first photo will give you a size comparison. The blade is 3/16" thick and weighs 2.6 ounces just like you see it here:

Using a baton I hammered it half-way through this Wild Cherry:

Finally, I wanted to see how strong the blade was so I drove it 3/4" deep straight into this Wild Cherry then put my weight on it and pried out this chunk of tree. No damage to the blade. No warpage. This is one tough little bastard!

The knives will come in 3 colors: Black, Desert Tan and OD Green. They will be shipped with a fully ambidextrous molded sheath, paracord (for cord wrapping handle or neck carry), cord lock, snap (for snapping sheath into gear, etc), MOLLE lock, Cord wrap and carry instruction sheet, split ring and mini-fire flint. The carry options on this thing are going to be many (typical for RC, eh?).

The name of this knife will be IZULA This name is a take-off from the name "Isula" which is what a Bullet Ant is called in Peru.

Not exactly sure when they will be shipping but we will be offering this in a knife only option (without sheathing) also.

Edit: forgot to mention that the large hole in the pommel is for snapping the system with a carabiner to gear. It also makes a very good grip to pull the knife from it's sheath. For choking up to do fine work (such as skinning) it's pretty comfortable to put your little finger through this hole and your index finger out on the spine.

After posting this up, Shon and I talked about this knife and we have decided to go to 5/32" thickness and raise the grind line slightly. This brings the weight down to 2 ounces and also increases the cutting efficiency drastically due to the geometry...and it's still tough as nails! Shon has already made a new production sample and tested it in his shop. Same heat treat as the RC-3.

I like it .... looks great ,and I can see alot of usage for this necker, very utility base design and I like the added touch of the large ring at the base of the knife, for using it as an attach point if needed....I would like to see pictures of the full set-up when available ....I will probably pick up one of each color, thanks RC/Rowen!

If only it had a flux capacitor. Is it going to have a slender sheath or is it going to be on the bulky side like the RC-3 sheaths.

Wow, this exceeded my expectations even further.

Great move on the 5/32 thickness - I think that is a perfect thickness for this knife! Izula is a good name too.

Excellent work RAT - you are truly effective at depleting my bank account!

I know - shipping dates to be announced, but roughly are we talking end of summer, fall early next year?

RAT Cutlery is becoming quite the knife company!

Excellent disign, I will be spending quite abit with you guys in awhile.

That looks like a great little knife. I bet the slightly thinner steel won't hurt it one bit and will make it an even better slicer. I will definitely have to pick one of these up.

Jeff,

Any chance of a sign up sale for the forumites? I would DEFINITELY buy at least one.

Good move for a good blade. Can't wait.
I like that raw look of it like it is. Already has character to it. Thats how mine will look!

I can't wait to get one of those!
Any idea on an approximate price of these?

Also wondering about the price range, and for the record, I LOVE the knife and can't wait to see the full kit that comes with it sheathing wise. Now if only I knew how to para cord wrap.... Never needed to know that before so I guess I will have something to learn. I need to know price so I can decide on a color, or two, or afford all three right off! :) That will probably not happen, but I can dream!

Looks GREAT, good job guys.
