RAT Cutlery neck knife (photos)

A fold over sheath would be much smaller in profile than one w/ eyelets all the way around. Maybe better for a slim knife. I am directing this at no previous poster, simply making the comment.

Valid point Any Cal.

Hey guys what are the rest of your thoughts on sheaths?

Jeff are there any preliminary ideas that you can share with us?

What we're working on is a molded sheath. It may be a little wider than what yall are talking about but the sheath is going to eventually do some things that no one else has on the market (or even thought about). Initially, you will get the sheath but later on there is some optional features that will integrate with the sheath.

You're going to get a fully functional ambidextrous sheath system right off the bat. It will have the capability to be carried with a cord around the neck, snapped into place on gear, lash it, use a MOLLE lock to clip it to a vest, belt, etc. The cord will be enough to cord wrap the handle and will come with wrapping instructions. It will also come with a snap, split ring and Fire Flint. What we're not telling yet is the optional equipment that we are designing that will integrate with the standard equipment.

Oh, and we're offering the Izula in three choices of color: Black, OD, Desert Tan.

I'm just woke up and am reading this while I wait for the water to boil for my coffee, and as I read my eyes went from these little thin slits and with each comma basically my eyes opened up more and wider until I looked like this guy  That really is everything I have ever wanted in a neck knife/ companion knife but could never find till now.

I agree. It sounds TOTALLY awesome. Can't wait to get it!

Tell me about it. I think this will be my next knife. I'd like to see a pic of this baby vs a BK11. I had a BK11 and though I liked it, it was too big and the I ended up selling it and getting a RAT-3.

Coffee is ready. Poker game lasted too long last night.

Hey Jeff,

Shon sent me one of the first production knives to roll off the line. Of course they haven't been powder coated or engraved yet, but the photos here are of a finished neck knife except for the coating and engraving.

This first photo will give you a size comparison. The blade is 3/16" thick and weighs 2.6 ounces just like you see it here:

After posting this up, Shon and I talked about this knife and we have decided to go to 5/32" thickness and raise the grind line slightly. This brings the weight down to 2 ounces and also increases the cutting efficiency drastically due to the geometry...and it's still tough as nails! Shon has already made a new production sample and tested it in his shop. Same heat treat as the RC-3.

Since you're going to 5/32", what's the chances of getting one of the 3/16" models that have already been produced? (I like bomb-proof :o).

R.A.T. it sounds like IZULA is going to be rather amazing :D

Just promise me that the sheath will be comfortable to shoulder carry!
(ie a figure-8 paracord)

What? There are more options than what you listed? I'm pretty sure you guys went into an alternate universe to get those other options, because I sure can't think of many other ways to carry a knife than that.

I am dying to pick up a pair of OD green ones and one each Black and Tan and if I am lucky I love to have one of the proto types as well......:D

I'm reaching for my wallet already!!!:thumbup::thumbup:
