RAT Cutlery Photos

Each time I look at the photos of RAT Knives I get the urge to buy one. Now I'm in the awful position of having to choose...do I get the RC 3 or the RC4. What's a guy to do?

I went with the RC-4 first, and love it.

Ordering an Izula today, if I can choose a color!

Just got back from three days in some rough country. I had one of my Izula's with me and it got some use. For a general using knife it did everything that i needed it to, from fire preparation to food. For serious work my RC5 would be preferable but for everyday it works fine.

My HEST with my buddy TheNocko's birthday present, sorry for the poor quality.

And then with my crappy first try wrap job (super loose)

Just wanna say thanks to Dale over at The Knife Connection for the epic hook up and super fast shipping... Expect another order for an OD Izula after next payday dude

flynt69, your izula looks great. I like it better than the larger fixed RATs that have a patina on them. I really need to get an izula lol.

Here are my RC-5 and RC-6. The short Spec-Ops Navigator sheath fits the RC-6 perfectly.

Horn Dog - Thanks for the pics of the HEST without the handle and the matches inside. Does a good job of showing the size of the compartment. One question, does the spec ops sheath that the rc6 is in have a snap in addition to velcro on the handle strap?

Horn Dog how do you like those REI Matches? Are yours long burning or are they short and intense?

The REI Stormproof matches don't burn very long, but they burn very intensely. If you have proper tinder prepared and kindling ready, no problem

Yes, the keeper strap is adjustable and it does snap on. Mine fits like it was made for the RC-6.

That looks very nice. Did you just use vinegar/mustard?

Stripped with paint stripper. I evidentially got the wrong kind because 48 hr soak still required 2 hrs of scraping. She did not want to give up her coating!

I sanded with 2000 grit wet/dry paper.

coated it with plain yellow mustard and wrapped in paper towel (PT) to give it some texture, unwrapped and hung by hole for about 1 hr.

cleaned knife with soap and water and soaked a paper towel in red wine vinegar wrapped the knife in the PT for about an hour.

cleaned and reapplied the mustard from original PT by then it was partially dry which gave it that blotchy patina let it hang for about another hour.

cleaned and coated the blade with potato juice, heard it would yield a bluish patina but I really noticed no change.

cleaned, oiled , stroped , and wrapped.

sorry no pics of the process, but I have seen some good ones in here.

Nice, it looks good. I might have to do something similar when the time comes for my 'zula to be stripped.

Hey,
I am new to the forums. I have my first RAT (RC-4) in the mail. I am so excited I have been lusting over these knives for several months. I am counting the days until it comes. I will be sure to post some pics of it when it comes.
