RAT Cutlery RC4S

Nice photos Mistwalker. Makes me wish I didn't get rid of the RC4 I had. I'll have to get another someday, they handle very well and carry comfortably. The package is surprisingly thin feeling when worn on the belt.

Hot water rinse with some handsoap always does it for me.

Thanks, glad you liked them.

Yep, the thin-ness was one of the initial draws for me.

Yep, a little soap and water is all it takes...for me anyway.

I still want the 3 and 6.

I went and threw a Rib eye on the Foreman.:thumbup::thumbup:

Oh I'm gonna get the 5 or the 6 eventually...still trying to make up my mind which. But with property taxes just coming due, and the winter bills too...I think I'll have plenty of time to figure that out.

Hmmm...steak does sound good, maybe tomorrow lol.

ARRRGGGGG!!! your not helping!!! I just ordered my first RC-4 and the waiting is killing me.
How do you like the shoulder carry? I plan to pack mine the same way.Great review......Now I have to go eat.:p

Would it be possible for you to post a "family picture"...all side by side on a table or something?
Thanks

Howdy,

These are the only pictures I have handy, it shows the RC-4 and Izula:

what rat knive would your recommened for a kid with kinda small hands and goes camping a lot (batoning and preparing food) and shooting, the rc3 or the rc4?
many thanks Kabarkid

Great review as usual Mistwalker! I really haven't used my RC4 much but it stayed on my IOTV in Afghanistan last summer and fall. It's a perfect sized utility knife. I usually shy away from partially serrated knives, but those ESEE serrations look pretty clean and easy to maintain. Understand your need, as I will often carry a dedicated full-serrated blade when out in the field or deployed.

I don't have any use for the serrations, but I do have several Rowan RC knives as well as a great D2 RAT 7 from Ontario.

I have found the little RC-3 to be a great camp knife.

I sent over a number of RC-4 knives to relatives, and sons of friends in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fellows all said that it was about as useful a knife as they had ever seen. A good knife is a must over there.

Great reviews mist!Out of all my RATs,Izula,RC3,RC4,and the RC6,I like the 6 most.It fits my large hands better than any of the others(still like the others alot)and is the one I grab the most when heading for the woods.I have been giving some serious thought to the HEST,might have to get one soon.Oh yeah, thanks for making me hungry!

They have the same handle so it really depends on which you do more of....for more food prep I would say the ESEE-3 as the 1/8 slices like a dream. for more batoning and rough use I'd say go with the ESEE-4 because of the heavier blade. For something the size of the 3 but tough like the 4 go with the HEST. The HEST has a "fuller" handle than either and a shorter, thicker blade than the 3 but roughly the same over-all length.

Thanks Rock! Yeah I love the 4S a lot for woods carry, but it's a little big for discrete urban carry...so the HEST and the 3MIL work better for me there. I like the idea of the serrations in case I'm down to just the one knife but I usually have the Izula handy for p.e.

Thanks man! I love the looks of the ESEE-6 a lot! but it's not exactly discrete or sheeple friendly and I needed to take care of that issue first. The last little while has been a study in finding the perfect knife to use for teaching classes with. One that was very well made, optimized to field crafts, offered the greatest amount of carry options, and was affordable all at the same time. I think it is going to be the ESEE-3 because of its great versatility and a lot of people may find the 4 a bit heavier than what they want. In a perfect world for me it would be the ESEE-3 in 5/32 :)

Eh...being hungry happens anyway at some point :D
