RAT Cutlery vs. Fallkniven....if you carry just one into the bush with you (assuming the model is consistent in length and size), which would you choose?

Personally I would choose RAT (RC-6), but that's personal preferance. Which models are you comparing?

RAT !
I think that Fallknivens are overpriced and don't have good quality control all the time.Their warranty also sucks. And they're stainless... ;)

i never like sitting on the fence. i have plenty of personal preferences. but when it comes to this question, i would have no problem trusting my life in the bush to either of these straight out of the box.
Russell.

I've owned the F1, S1, A1 and A2 of Fallkniven, but only 2 RAT's (RAT3 and Izula), and I'll take the RAT every time. Only exception: A2. Only because RAT hasn't come out with it's chopper yet.

For the price, quality, and warranty RAT all the way. Fallkniven makes a nice knife, but I do not think it is superior to those from RAT.

I own all the RC products except the RC-5. I love them to death. I also want to buy an F1. From everything I've read they are a superb knife. The standard in a survival knife. Even Jeff Randall praised the virtues of the F1 in this very sub-forum.

When I was looking for this size blade initially I was choosing between the, at the time, newly released RC-4 and the F1. Ultimately, I made my choice on the basis of the mircata handles which I just adore. When I buy an F1 in the future, it will be one of the mircata versions which cost about double that of the RC-4.

I have owned the F1 & S1, they have both traded off. I could not come to terms with the smaller grips & what I felt were brittle edges. For me it is Rat Cutlery hands down. Great blades and the best wrnty. in the business. I have the Izy, 3, 4 & 6...I find that the 4 is with me in the outdoors most often.

Fallkniven

I think the steel is better in them.

I like a convex edge better than a v grind.

I like some of the smaller RAT models but so many of them have either choil notches or big ricassos that gives me less leverage and less edge.

Also although needed for a carbon blade in a survival situation I really detest coated blades.

Am I not afraid to swim against the current or what ;)

I think both RAT and Fallkniven make excellent knives. That being said, I'd choose a RAT blade. I prefer carbon steel for one. I also MUCH prefer the micarta handles. While the micarta handled F1's have are comfy in the hand, I find them far too handle-heavy. My RC-4 has much better balance. Plus it's great to know RAT stands behind their blades for life, I think Fallkniven's warranty is only two years. I'd be happy to have a knife by either maker but if I had my choice I'd take a RAT.

i had an izula and really liked it but my f1 is a great knife. I think they are both great knives.

I have a RC-3, RC-5, and Izula. I love my RATS.

However, I have an H1 as well. Its a tuff SOB and has a great convex edge on it. I also enjoy the lack of choil in that size knife. That said, my H1 has custom G10 handles which I prefer to the rubber ones they come with.

If I had to choose between how they come standard, I'd go for the RC.

I never go with just one. ;)

Own both Fallkniven and RAT products. All of my examples are made and perform in the most excellent manner. If your outdoor skills can match the quality and design of either manufacturer, it won't matter which selection you make providing the environment is equitable to both and you find both comfortable to use.

A gift I received a few months ago (RAT6). Unlike some prybars in this blade length, this one actually cuts very well! I keep it in one of my saddle bags for those remote wilderness treks. :)

Where did you get that mug/cup? It's really nice and an unusual handle. I'd be interested in getting one myself!

Oh, and I'd totally get a RAT! I don't own any Fallknivens but I absolutely love my RC4 and know it can handle any task I throw at it, especially with the unbeatable warranty and upstanding gentlemen at RAT/Rowen backing it up

I have em all. Yup I have the sickness.

I go out all the time and I think you just can't beat the F1 for a small fixed.
Now as far as a chopper - I love the A2 but - not a fan of the A2 handle.

So I say gimme a F1 and a 12" convexed machete! I can get though about anything with that pair.

My RAT's seem nice - just never my first choice - although the RAT-3 was a favorite for many years. The RC-3 is nicer than the RAT-3 but still cant compete with the F1 in my book.

The RC-6 is close - but just not big enough for a chopper for me or I would attempt to put all the eggs in one basket. But just not enough heft on the RC-6.

Personally I would choose RAT (RC-6), but that's personal preferance. Which models are you comparing?

I currently own an RC-5, RC-3 and an Izula from RAT Cutlery. I have not complaints about any of those knives. They all have performed at intended, but many of the Fallkniven knives have caught my fancy. I do intend to get one someday, but haven't yet. I have a Cold Steel SRK (Carbon V steel) that I have owned for many years. I really like and shape of that knife, and some of the Fallknivens are similar design, but I don't know if I would want to put all my eggs in a basket in a knife made by a company that switched from Carbon V to Aus 8.

I still haven't made my personal choice which knife is the "do all" survival knife so I was just asking to see what you opinions were.
