Rat cutlery

It would be really badass if RC made a blade that had the RC5 handle, but a choil-less 4" blade and was made in 1/8" or 5/32" thickness. I think that would please a lot of folks.

Or an RC-3 without a choil. That would be pretty sweet. Maybe it's just me but I don't need a choil on a blade that short.

Well it sort of exists. Bearthedog designed something along these lines as a the Breeden CUB knife. Similar blade shape, but thinner stock (if you want it that way), and pathfinder handle. Very good blade at about the same price point as the RC-3. If you are interested, try contacting Bryan at Sicily03.

Maybe someone has a comparison picture of the 4,5 and 6 side by side and spine shot together.

Well, the only two complaints I've ever seen (or had personally) about an RC blade were the choil and the thin handle. Using the RC5/RC6 handle and losing the choil (and keeping it thin-ish) solves it all.

Guess i'm not the only one here who's not a fan of choils.
Rats all look like great knives but the lack of choil is what attracts me to the RC-5.
If i didn't already have two Becker Companions i would have bought an RC-5 by now.
:)

The CUB is an awsome knife..I got one last year for my Little Bro. fro christmas ! I got 6" Peacemaker & got Dad the PSKK ! I've been dealing w/ bryan for the last 2 years now & he is a great guy to deal with
I think I might go for a RC-6 now that you guys have talked me into it ! :D

I would be inclinded to go for the new HEST rat knife, seems well made with some clever inclusions...would be my choice, read about it, seems very well thought out.

hey Coaldigger,

Generally I would say you can't go wrong getting any RC blade. The RC-5 is a hell of a knife, but very very thick. I would either go for a RC-6 or save some bucks and get a Becker BK-2. Check with the guys in the RAT forum, but I think most will agree.

Go check the knife reviews at

Knivesshipfree.com

Select RC5 There are a couple of short reviews.

You can also search the Rat Cutlery forum for RC5 Pass around and find a plethora of information.

I can't stand choils on small and medium size blades either. If there is to be one on either, it should be very very small to aid in sharpening only.

I can't say enough good things about the RC-6, freggin love that knife now. 6" seems a little big, but honestly, when your out in the middle of nowhere, and thats the only thing you've got on ya, you'd be happy, I was!:D

The RC5 is a monster. I have opted to skip this one from RC as it is so specialized and I do not need this in my group. My RC4 & RC6 are more suited to woods use than a RC5. Don't get me wrong, I really like RC knives and the company, but the RC5 is way more than I need and my others are just fine. Funny thing is Jeff Randall has posted the RC5 is his least favorite in his own line up, due to it being so specialized. If I were a pilot...RC5 for sure. For bumming in the woods...RC4 or RC6. BUT....the best part is you are free to buy whatever you want. If the RC5 floats your boat, grab one! :D

I got my RAT Cutlery RC-5 a couple of months ago - great value - my idea of a rough & tough survival knife. Of course, there was a time when I thought a KaBar utility knife, aka 'USMC Fighting Knife', was 'right', too. I would also have a smaller fb - maybe my Bark River Fox River or Gameskeeper. Maybe a folder, like my new BM 610 RUKUS, a SAK (The Farmer's model!), or my much used Buck 110, too.

Here is my RC-5 amongst a few other 'survival' knives:

My son gave me the LMFII... I bought the rest, of course.
