Rat folder...?

I think our folder is going to be a an RC-6 sawed in half and a hinge welded to both pieces. Screw all that fancy stuff of assisted opening, flippers, fancy locks, etc.

With some 100 mph tape wrapped around the handle some of it could be used to lock the blade open.
I suggest Gorilla tape.

I have waited on buying the RAT1 folder from Ontario hoping that RC will produce one. I have waited this long I think I can wait a little longer.

I am hoping for a frame lock but who knows?

I would love a frame lock folder. Lets just hope RAT doesn't use titanium and the retail price is over $300. :p

Sure would make maintenance and repair pretty easy. :D

I have the Ontario Rat folder, it actually replaced the Izula for my edc. Sorry, but I like having it clipped to my pocket, the Izula is just kind of an annoyance to carry unless I'm hiking or something. It's the most solid folder I own. If/when RAT does a folder I'll totally buy one.

I like that framelock Izula concept that showed up on here a bit ago. That said overall I am no fan of folders, especially for the survival knife niche- moving parts just means maintenance, failure and liability. I think RAT has done a good job of keeping true to their primary focus which is to hell and back survival knives. The last thing I want to see is another spyderco with a bunch of schmucked out stainless chipfest folders that retail for 100+.

I hear this same thing on the Busse forum and the Bark River forum. Why do we expect fixed blade manufacturers to make folders? In any case, I'm pretty sure Blade-Tech can make any design Jeff wants. They made my EDC, the Swamp Rat Trap. Thing is, Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, Blade-Tech, Al Mar, and a few others already made some very good ones.

agreed horn dog.... i am not really sure why. i do like the principle of RC though and that applied to a folder would be nice... something afordable , rugged and useful sounds perfect and i'm in the market for a new edc. but also all the new lines coming out... its going to be nice to see so many new models to pick up. So i wont hold my breath for it , but if it pops up ill add it to my cart and give it a shot.

how is the rat trap HD? i have not had the pleasure of getting my paws on one.... yet.

It is great for EDC because it is thin. It was rough when new, but has smoothed out and is nice and slick opening now. There are more rugged folders out there, but this one has served me well and it carries well. I got one of the first Ontario RAT folders, and it is a bit more rugged with thicker liners. My newest folder, the Ritter RSK is nice. It has the Axis lock and seems pretty rugged. But I digress. This is the RAT Cutlery forum. :D If the RC fans want a folder, I'm sure Jeff can come up with a good one. If Benchmade or Blade-Tech make it, it will be a winner.

agreed. if I remember correctly it had micarta on just one side which was a great idea to keep grippyness and the slim profile the Izula fixed blade has. Also the Izula size would be perfect as folder. much bigger and I start wanting to do fixed blade tasks.
