Hi all,

I'm looking into getting a small EDC fixed blade. I am torn between the Izula and the HEST. I know the Izula is great, but I am VERY intrigued by the removable scales of the HEST. I don't really have any fixed blades as I mainly collect folders, so I feel like I'm cheating myself a little bit if I get a fixed blade that is skeletonized - but the HEST being able to go either way seems like a terrific answer :)

I'm thinking of horizontally carrying the knife on my belt across the back. Figure that'd be the least noticeable way of carrying it. I've looked for pictures of the HEST, but the only ones I find show the usual flat view which shows the broad side of the blade.

* How thick is the knife with the handle slabs attached (would be great if someone has a camera handy and could perhaps snap a pic with something for size reference)? Thinking the slabs may make the knife a bit too bulky for under the shirt carry along the belt, but that's just a guess.
* How long is the knife overall when sheathed?
* Can the MOLLE attachment be rigged to carry the knife horizontally or would I need to figure out some creative to to attach it to my belt with some paracord?
* Does anyone carry the knife in pocket? Is it too big / broad for such a carry method?

Thanks for any and all help, much appreciated :D

Seems like you made up your mind on the HEST ,LOL
THe HEST is a Fantastic Knife will not be disappointed, the Izula is a great knife as well... I guess it boils down to the options and your checkbook.
The HEST seems a little large for in the pocket carry to me, but the Izula does as well IMO. I can see the HEST geared more towards Urban EDC and the Izula for no matter the landscape, not a knock on the HEST but a Bottle opener is not needed in the woods.
look over each knife and what you need in-mindset and go from there

I was looking at them both also, I went with the Izula and now that I have that one the Hest, and more rat's will follow soon!

I'll break the camera out tonight I need to take some knife pics anyway. I carry my HEST in my front pants pocket and it's completely unnoticeable with the scales on. The profile is tiny yet provides a sure grip. On the trails I horizontally carry at my back, I just did a 550 chord wrap through the holes on the sheath and it is very secure with no wiggle on a 1.5 inch belt. Didn't bother with the supplied MOLLE locks, I don't like them-they snag easy and are much higher profile than the 550 chord which is supplied. The way I have it wrapped I can horizontally carry on one side, and vertical carry on the other. And welcome to the fixed blade buzz... I don't give a hoot anymore about folders, just too high maintenance and expensive. Fixies are a lot simpler, stronger and can be very easily carried.

There's a decent amount of Photos on the forum... Check this thread for some: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=674055&page=2

And then there's RYP's Picasa Web album @ http://picasaweb.google.com/RYPCel/DPx#

On a side note:
I just bought my friend an Izula for his birthday... I unpacked it and thought for a brief second that I should keep it and get him a giftcard to Outback or Longhorn's instead... Then I saw my HEST staring back at me, laughing, and realized I'm in no rush to own an Izula ;)

Thanks for the links! Had found the first one already but hadn't found the RYP's portfolio - had one picture in there that gave a good shot of the thickness of the knife with the handle slabs attached. If anyone happens to have a ruler hanging around and could take a quick measurement of the handle with the scales on, that'd be great :D
