RAT Izula vs. BR Bravo Necker

Here are two more shots for comparison:

I've got both. The Izula has a much more ergonomical handle. In fact, I think the handle on the BR Necker is quite uncomfortable. So, I'll probably modify that later on; just like I did with my Izula, when I reshaped the edge to 15° in order to make it a better cutter.

If one where to regrind the Izula into a convex grind, the two blades would become twins of different traits. The blade shapes are almost identical, so deciding which one to go for really comes down to what type of grind and which metal, along with which handle, sheath and what price one prefers.

Glad someone put up some pics. It's been dark here by the time I've gotten home this week so I never got around to taking any. Stoffi is right. Without handles the Izula is very comfortable compared to the Necker. There is a huge improvement with the handles on though.

smcclown05, with the BRKT Bravo Necker scales on, which handle is more comfortable, Bravo Necker or Izula?

Anyone know if the Izula scales leave a little more room in between, as in the RAT (ESEE) HEST? http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=RCHEST

Stoffi, saw another post of yours about your RAT Izula and BRKT Bravo Necker mods. Would you say the BRKT Necker Bravo 2 handle is now as comfortable as the Izula's after your grind of the sharper edges on the handle?

Do you have a photo of the handle after you ground the edges and before you paracord wrapped it?

What did you use to grind it, and did this affect the strength of the handle or mar the color? I'm just planning on getting the standard black.

For the Izula, aside from cord retainer attachment point, what uses do you have for the hole in the end of the Izula? Did you grind down to a full convex grind? Would this be possible without damaging the Izula blade?

What tools/which knife maker did you use/do to grind down the Izula edge to 15 degrees?

Really appreciate this discussion and the tips. Both of these are excellent knives that should work very well for my uses (backpacking knife for inverted carry on backpack straps and EDC).

How does the current Livesay NRGS 1095 steel neck knife compare with the RAT Izula and Ka-Bar BK11, which are also made of 1095, and the BRKT Bravo Necker 2? Anyone have the NRGS?

Which one?
They are both excellent knives and you can't really go wrong with either. Personally, I like the Bravo Necker just a bit better for the grind, steel, and non-coated cutting surfaces but I own an Izula, too. ;)

I like the different handles option on the Bark River but I wonder about the powder coating. They say its not covered under warranty and it will chip.
Any coating on any blade with chip or wear. The coating on the Izula will get quite scuffed and scruffy looking after just a bit of hard use.

Is there a handle available yet for the Izula and can it be gotten without the blade coating?
The handle scales are available for the Izula, and quite a bit cheaper than the ones for the Bravo Necker (my only real complaint with the BRKT knife, I think the scales are overpriced). The knives only come with the blade coating (although in 3-4 different colors) becuase the knife is carbon steel and the coating is intended to protect it from rust. Lots of people do strip the coating from ESEE knives, however, and people have used uncoated carbon steel knives for centuries. It just takes a bit of extra care and maintenence.

And you can back this up with hands on experience?

Ohhh and just so you know.....

Having a R.A.T strapped to a really cool tactical Airsoft vest while playing C.O.D on an X-box isn't considered hard use by most knife-nuts.

Damn that how I use my Izula's.. to open my chips and I have my Hest for my beer. I thought I was roughing till 3am playing Cod MW2. :D
I'm interested in the Bravo but pll think the handle on the skeleton isn't comfortable? I have many Izula's with para cord, scales and naked. I just decided I like the naked knives when I'm not using it much just because it's smaller. I want a new toy and like the ss of the Barkie and always wanted to try a barkie
