RAT PSA: Questions

So is the RATchete going to have hollow handles like the HEST or not?

What about the tactical pink and lavendar micarta scales?

:p

I think AK was just trying to help us out and we appreciate the gesture. However, we don't mind the questions. Everyone that is a member here on the RAT forums has a right to ask anything they want and speak their mind anyway they please as long as it fits into the forum rules. RAT, its owners and its forum member are interactive. If we ever get to where we cannot interact directly with a customer, or even someone who's not a customer, then we will close the doors and call it quits because it will no longer be fun.

If we don't answer a question it may be because the question has already been asked a million times and the one posting the question has not taken the time to find the answer, or we may just not have an answer, or we may be too busy or miss the question. Pretty much the rest of the forum members do our work for us when a question is asked. All of you jump in and reply to a new question pretty quickly, so it's not bothering us if questions get asked. Even dumb ones! ;)

We need to remember that we are not building RAT robots here with our forum members. What we hope to achieve is a group of folks who are pure Individualists, recognizing that you don't have to drink the Kool-aid or buy into all the hype and BS in this industry...and maybe offer a little info that could be beneficial some where down the road if the stuff hits the fan.

Jeff. I'm not used to this mild side. You're not even using expletives anymore! It's good that you've decided to explore your softer side ;)

There's a misunderstanding here, I'm not saying stop asking all questions but rather the dumb questions that annoy most members around here.

Examples:

How do I get a RAT Pack #?!
Can I throw my Izula?
Jeff chimes in giving info about [new product] and mentions there will be no different colorations, gives exact specs, and says there is no other info at this time. Over 1/4 of the thread is full of questions that were already answered.
RAT Pack knife thread, too many examples I don't feel like mentioning.

I'm sorry gottahaveit27 if you were offended by my post, and by my pathetic attempt to get the word out there that those questions are getting on people's nerves. I'm hoping that you just misinterpreted my initial post (I guess I could've worded it differently to get my point across more clearly).

By all means keep asking general questions, but if it can be answered by common sense and grade school level comprehension then reconsider asking.

I collect watches. And participate in sevearl forums for watch collecting. We get the same kind of posts sometimes.

But keep this in mind, we are all here with different experience levels and different interests, and different knowledge.

If we are not here to discuss or answer questions, what are we doing? I appreciate your enthusiasm, but personally I think your energy could be better directed by either ignoring a post that doesn't interest you, or providing an answer. I mean no offense by stating that, but no one asked you to be the hall monitor. That's what the mod team is for. Just because the question asked by a newbie is bothersome to you doesn't mean its not worthy of the forum. Frankly, its not YOUR forum.

If THE RAT team (Jeff et al.) or the mod team want do kill of the repetitive questions that's their prerogative. But I bet they never will. Why? Despite being asked a million times about RP#'s they know that each one of those folks is a customer and passionate supporter of the brand. Annoying? Maybe, but that newbie COULD BE the next guy that owns 7 RAT knives, gets the RAT tattoo on their forehead and tells 18 people to buy RATS.

I guarantee you if you abuse that person with a rude or curt response they may not buy that first RAT and their perception of the brand (like it or not) is tarnished.

In that sense we are all representatives of this knife company we have come to love.

IMHO we are all here to help each other and to participate. The RAT forum moves very quickly and has great answers. If you see a post where someone asks about their RAT number, maybe you could just ignore it.

Actually it's a lot simpler than that. We are all just human. Humans are impatient. Humans want info now. Humans want to interact. Humans want to feel someone actually gives a damn about them. Mike and I are no different than any poster on this web site when it comes to certain traits. It's just that simple. Honestly, I could give a damn whether the guy who asks dumb questions ever buys a RAT knife, or ever owns one. As long as he walks away from this forum informed and knowing how to separate bullshit from fact then we have done what we are suppose to do. Our core principles are not about knife sales.

Hmmm...I heard Mike wasn't human....

Correct, I saw a ton of the same questions being asked and noticed I, amongst others, was getting slightly annoyed (hence this thread). I think a few members here are thinking I'm saying stop all questions or all commonly asked questions, that's not what I'm trying to get across. I'm talking about the questions that can be answered by just reading what's already there posted in an update or some rules. And for the record, I was just getting out the word I'm not trying to start a revolution or whatever the hell you guys want to call it. I'm sorry, but I don't see how I can't state this just because I'm not a moderator.

But I guess this doesn't even matter because the people that keep asking the questions don't even bother to read.

umm, so there's a forum, where manufacturers communicate with consumers and vice versa, but consumers aren't supposed to ask stupid questions like:

"what are the specs or your product so I can determine if I want one?"

or "When can we give you our hard earned money for the product you just announced"

If those are the "stupid" questions, and it's an annoyance to have people ask them, then I'd suggest a PSA to the RAT team telling them not post incomplete "teaser" info until they have answers for questions that any business-person in the world would fully expect to follow said announcments.

The only logical answer is that they are OK with, and in fact fully expect such questions, as they are the price to be paid for keeping their loyal customers informed as best as possible.

So, it comes down to whether A) they know what they are doing and don't need to be told differently or B) they really don't want questions but somehow haven't learned after dozens of times how to avoid them

hmmm, which could it be?

Not if the specs are already listed on the first post and idiots can't comprehend that. And when they say they don't have a release date, why keep on asking them (at least give it a month or two before asking for another update after the initial update)? It's not going to make it get done any quicker.

Seriously this "PSA" (I only called it that so this post would get noticed) is to tell the idiots to start using common sense or go back to school. But if you want to skim over my posts and just blatantly nit pick at me then all the power to you.

The funny thing about this is, if it were a moderator stating this there would be countless posts of "sounds good" "I agree" etc... When Dylside noted the offtopic spam going around here the mods got on it, yet nothing gets done with this. No "read the updates before asking" threads. Eh, whatever I stated my opinion and obviously a few members think I'm "out of my place" because I'm not a moderator so that means I can't state my opinion on the matter.

my god guys......go have a coke and a smile.

Questions are questions. AKnife, you are coming off kinda flippant. I dont think you mean to, but it does come off like that.

Some newbies dont know how to use the search function, so they ask the same stuff. Then sometimes people need to be told more then once how to or not to do something. We all see that in everyday life. Demanding people "stop it!" isnt gonna do anything but stir the pot. It really wont change anything, and as you post more and contribute more and more in years to come, you will see that. You will also see the same stuff that "annoys" you still "annoys" you, but, tis the nature of the internet beast.... These places move in cycles.

Best I can say, (or type) is to enjoy the good info, enjoy the commaderie and friendships you develope around here. Dont sweat the small stuff.

And sheesh guys, its not even into winter yet! Usually people get on edge in the dead of winter when cabin fever sets in a bit. Like I said have a coke and a smile ( or a bourban and a smoke) :)

Very cool, Someone posted a general knife question on the G Shock forum too. :)
Lots of "cross pollination" :)

Thank you, I know there will always be the annoying posts and such. I guess I just worded this whole thing wrong because people are getting the wrong picture. When I mention "dumb posts" I mean the posts that pop up in the same update thread asking questions which can be answered by reading the actual thread. I've been to other forums, I know about regular annoying questions that pop up. I guess that's what people think I'm referring too, when it's not.

At least my point is getting across to some people around here.

see this is what I mean.... calling members idiots, and demanding they go back to school is not cool.

And as for the moderator comments and stuff.....

The Mods so a crazy job. They are good guys who try to walk a fine line between order and not having a commie attitude. They do a good job.

If you are so off put by this place, and these "idiots", theres always options brother...

Yeah man, I think thats the case.....

I read ya, just think it couldve been worded better.

Anyways....

lets all just step back and enjoy RAT blades, and conversations.
