RAT Questions from a newbie

I too would say go with the izula, have you read the RAT Cutlery warranty? :D

Yeah I read it thats why I narrowed it down to 1 company when I decided to try a small fixed blade for EDC. That warranty is ridiculous, pretty much you break it send it to RAT RAT it replaces, pretty simple and straight forward. Unreal confidence in their product.

^ :D yeah not too long ago some one sent in a rat he broke prying bricks out of his driveway and Jeff replaced it, I still laugh a little picturing the accident...
Hey Jim come help me remove some of these pesky bricks.
Ok where's your prybar?
Prybar? Who needs a prybar, those things are heavy and dull here use this. *Hands him a Rc-4*
Well ok if you say so. This one isn't coming out, are you sure you don't have a prybar?
Don't worry just put all you weight on it.
Ok. *snap*. Uh John I kinda broke your knife.
Crap now I have to go and get the prybar.

(atleast this is how I like to picture the incident :D)

I got an Izula for a different reason. I have a nice little collection of little fixed blades. Emerson La Griffe. Simonich Bitteroot. Becker Necker. A bunch of others. I know what works for me.

I could see the Izula had a perfect handle shape (and confirmed that when I got it) and the materials and sheath also looked good. It is a minimalist, tough production knife. Heavy duty, classic (time-tested) blade shape, excellent skeletal handle, and the pinky-ring bird-and-trout butt on it is an almost unique feature. Some other similar designs would rather put a bottle opener there, which gouges my palm.

You can spread the joy by keeping a few in strategic gear bags and around the family. You know you've got a reliable tool that's actually big enough for most daily cutting tasks. Use one around the kitchen and see.

You can't go wrong with an Izula, but don't forget that certain RC3 models come with a window breaker on the pommel. As a paramedic that may be useful... But do get an Izule anyway, you'll find yourself reaching for it all the time.

Even if you get an Izula and it doesn't have a window breaker on the pommel it would probably take 10 min to put one on. Honestly I have been a medic for 7 years and think I have broken 2 or 3 windows at this point Lol. TV seems to always overplay that one.

Been a medic quite a few years myself and I don't think I have broken that many car windows, usually if a wreck is that bad then most if not all the glass is gone any way.

I'd volunteered as an EMT for about 15 years, and only ever had to break one or two windows outside of training. Makes me wonder why I always kept that spring loaded center punch in my scissor holster!

:rolleyes:Sounds like you guys need to start busting some more windows:D;)

I'm going to be an odd ball here and recommend the RC-3. Yeah its a bit bigger but it is an almost perfect user. Really comfy in the hand and super robust. There isn't much you can't do with the RC-3. The izula is a perfect little EDC knife that acts like a bigger knife. But really it doesn't act as big as an RC-3. Tell you what, the Izula is cheap so why net get both of them :D Check out Knivesshipfree for the leather sheath option that Derrik provides. They are gorgeous and an RC-3 in that black leather sheath will be very people friendly.

I'm with kgd, the RC3 handle is more robust and offers a much better feel. Agian though, an Izula is great to have for EDC and will tackle the majority of daily chores. If I were in an emergency situation I would want something with a solid grip that fills my hand. get both;)
