RAT RC-4 or BRKT Bravo-1 for camping/survival

I also have a Highland in black canvas in addition to my Bravo. It is a very handy size and very comfortable to hold. If I had my Wildlife hatchet or large chopper (or did not feel I needed heavy duty woodwork) on a trip to the forest, it would be a great knife choice for game/fish cleaning or other general camp activities.

I have two other Barkies but I'll leave those to another tread.

What do you think about the BRKT Canadian Camp? I'm about to order one...

Congrats! Which handle material did you choose?

Black Micarta

The company that I ordered it through had black, green and antique ivory. I thought about the green, but didn't think I would care for the way it looked with a brown leather sheath. I saw some pictures of the black handle with the brown sheath and liked it.

I don't have one or have seen a Canadian Camp in person. Based on the pictures and specs it is not for me but that is my taste. The blade is long and slender. If I were going to buy a long blade it would have more width. I also don't like the finger grooves of the Candian style. I prefer the swells of the Aurora. That's just me. I am sure it is a great knife, it's a Barkie! :D

Don't you think that .187 Inch is thick enough for a 6.5 inch long blade?

When I said I prefer more width I meant the measurement from edge to spine, not the thickness of the metal. I was not aware of the thickness. .187 seems to be the standard thickness of BRKT's larger knives. Fine with me. Same as the Aurora.

Just to make sure you're not disappointed, did you check to see if they're a stocking dealer? Reason I ask is that many places will "carry" the BRKT line, but actually don't stock them. One of the ways to tell is if they only carry the standard micarta colors and one or two of the wood handles. There's a post over on KnifeForums in the BRKT area that lists all of the stocking dealers.

Also, the micarta handled models come standard with a kydex sheath. The leather comes standard with the natural handle materials, or you can order one separately.

If it turns out that the dealer you chose doesn't actually stock them, I've had nothing but good luck with Knives Ship Free, and they still have some Bravos in stock from the last run.

Fox - I did not know that they natural handled knives came with the leather. I thought they all came with kydex and you had to buy the leather seperatly. Thanks for that information. I have seen a lot of good press for Knives Ship Free and perhaps I will give them a try next time.

I talked to the dealer that I bought from and he said he had it in stock and it will ship today and I should get it by next week. He did tell me that the distributor that he buys from does not carry the sheaths, so I might have to go with KSF to get that.
