Ok guys, it finally made it here today.
First off, I wanna thank KGD for sending me this beauty, and I also want to thank RAT for being such good guys and not having a problem sending these knives north, We like nice knives too!
So, on to the review. First up is a glamor shot, at least a try at it, My hands were shaking so bad I was so excited.
It comes with some belt attach ments and the nuts and bolt to put it tegether, also some paracord with a small tie. The sheath is a very tight fitting one, its holds the knife very securly, no rattling or anything. A swift tug on the ramp of the sheath and the knife pops out. If you guys want some more shots of the sheath just let me know.
Now here is a comparison shot. Left to right.
Master hunter(carbon V),BM Nimravus, Grohmann #4(stainless), Buck 119, Rat RC6, Becker BK7 (cammilus version)
So, the first thing I wanted to do is baton some wood, I got into the piece about this far and it stopped. I tried hard, but it just wouldn't go, I had the blade all twisted in the piece of wood too.
I didn't want to go to hard on it, but I did anyways and it just wouldn't go. So I then went at it with the BK7, showing no mercy aswell, but it just wouldn't go through either.
So, I inspected a little more and found a giant knot in the wood, I think it would have gone through if I let loose on it, but I didn't want to break either knife, and trust me it was a tough knot.
Then I went at something a little smaller, and it had no problems at all. I proceded to split that up and make some thin pieces and some shavings.
Then everything split up.
I now had everything ready to get a fire going. It was a little tough getting fine shavings like you would from a smaller knife, but obviously I'd like to be able to do this type of work and have a little trouble shaving than having a little knife and not being able to do the work.
So, that and the fact that it can't spark a ferro rod are my only complaints, but honestly it would take just a few minutes with a file to fix the striking problem, and a few more with a belt sander/file or anything really to change the grind a bit.
So, here is everything ready to go, I have my BM 551 to do the sparking, and everything else was done by the RC6
Just so its clear, though it wasn't the best a shaving, it still did a fine job.
A few more to come.
