RAT review

First off, and this is only a minor thing, but you mention RAT cutlery, but you post and Ontario RAT3, different maker dude. I know they used to be one and the same, but no longer. Like I said, makes no real difference, just felt like pointing that out (since I'm on RAT's side of that fight :p)

Secondly, I don't know what you did to that pocket clip, but mine's not beat up like that. I'm assuming you know that clip is only designed for IWB unsecured carry right? I'm taking that right off the instructions that came with my RC3. For anything else it's better to use either the MOLLE back, Tec Locks, or paracord. As for your other "complaints" I'm really not gonna get into all this again, other than to say that I have a rather large hand (size 15 fingers) and the RC3 fits perfectly in my hand. I'll upload some pics in a second, since I'd feel hypocritical otherwise. And I'm not saying I'm "full of knowledge", but I have been collecting knives for the better part of 14 years..... Pics to come shortly.

Try to concentrate on one thing at time and you will see difference. I saw RC knives only on pictures and videos and think same for them too. RC4 is maybe better but isn't anymore compact.

Cabala are you aware of the intended function of index finger choils on a knife design?

Teach me where i was wrong or tell me why you are pro - RAT. I truly think what i write and stand behind this. My intention isn't to discard any knife on market but when i buy him i have right on my opinion about it.

Son, I have an RC 3 and it is one of the best blades I own, I have owned a metric fuckton of knives throughout my lives and they have been used in many different theaters, not least of all Iraq, Afghan and is now used as a daily carry knife.

Your problem is you're just plain using it wrong, your fingers seem far too splayed when you grip the handle.

You have also stated that the blade is too short? Too short for what?
It's plenty long enough for all the general utility tasks I have used it for and it is the same length blade that would have been advertised when you bought it.

I think what you want is a whole different knife.

...here are the pictures, and a small review.

First, the knife in my hand:

#3. A reverse grip. Don't ask me why I decided to shoot it from the back of my hand.....:

I find the knife to be good for most tasks that require a small/medium utility knife. It's sturdy, holds an edge well, and sharpens easily. I have used this particular knife for food prep, box cutting, paracord cutting, making small fuzz sticks and shavings for fire starting, basic EDC on the weekends, and once my MercHarness gets here I'm going to see how it works as a concealed carry. I have yet to find a legitimate complaint with the size/shape/design of the blade. It functions well at any task I've thrown at it. If I absolutely had to pick something that I didn't like, I guess the only thing that comes to mind is the fact that it's not a stainless steel, so it does require some very minor TLC from time to time. All I do is wipe it down with Tuff Cloth once a week, and keep it sharp. It's really not a complaint, but I cant think of anything negative about the knife. It feels extremely comfortable in my hand, and doesn't become uncomfortable even after extended use. I have a rather large hand, and the handle fits perfectly, so it should fit just about any hand comfortably.

The sheath is equally as impressive. There are several different methods of carry, and with each the knife feels very comfortable, and doesn't get in the way. You can attach it to a MOLLE vest with either the Tech Locks, MOLLE back, or paracord. It can be carried IWB with the pocket clip, or you can attach it to your belt via the paracord or Tech Locks. Personally, I prefer the paracord, but that's just me.

All in all, it's an extremely good choice for a medium utility blade that will do just about any task you throw at it. If you need a larger blade there are other RAT knives that would be better, but for it's class, it's one of the best knives I've handled/carried.

Side Note: Sorry for the bad quality on the pics, but all I have at work is my iPhone. And if that review seems a little short to some, I've been in meetings all day, and that's about as much as I felt like using my brain. :p

Uhh, how am I focusing on something other than what you said? You are talking about RAT knives, but show an Ontario blade? Like I said, I wasn't making a big deal out of it. And no, the RC4 isn't more compact, it's a larger blade. And it's generally considered to be a great all around outdoor knife. Although I'm sure you'll have something to say about that too......

Well said!

Well I don't know, is that 3 3/8" blade long enough for you?

You need to tailor you blades for what you need, if you're going camping for a week would you take a katana and then complain it's not a good all round blade? No. So carry the blade you need as and when you need it.

By the way, you seem to fail at holding your knife and drawing it properly.

Look, if you like your knife that's OK. I wouldn't mind what someone say about thing that i like. My " review " isn't scientific study. I have similar knife too but i just want much practical knife to carry. Gentlemen from RAT say how they just listen what knife people want. They must try harder and maybe ill buy another one. Change of manufacturer means nothing to me. They must exchange some, in my opinion, mayor things on knife and that can be really good concept.

I believe he was trying to say that your criticism of the RAT-3 were less a sign that it was a bad knife, but rather indicating that for your personal preferences that a different knife would be better for you. If the blade is too short then get a knife with a longer blade. If the handle is too short get a knife with a longer handle. And if you don't like finger choils, get a knife that doesn't have one.

Pretty simple.;)

Thank you Sir, you summed it up a lot better than I did. :D

Since you have a knife made by Ontario in your pictures, perhaps you should ask them to make a change to suit you.

Change of manufacturer means everything to a lot of people, myself included. Of this wrong I am not.

I mean that you must think for yourself and talk in his own name. What i think is in my " review ". That's what mean I!

I do like the knife, that's why I get irritated when you bash it! Your not pointing out a deficiency in the knife, all your basically saying is that it's not the right knife for what you do, and that's cool with me. But your acting like it's the fault of the knife, or the makers, and it's not. It's the buyers responsibility to make sure they get the right tool for the job. And furthermore, the gentlemen at RAT are some of the best guys I've ever had the pleasure of talking with and doing business with. They do listen when the majority speak, and they make their blades accordingly. If there is a legitimate concern they address it. Not to mention they have some of the best ethics of any company I've dealt with.

I don't know about the rest of the guys, but for me it all boils down to a few simple things that irritate me. First, you claim to have knowledge of the knife, but cannot even demonstrate the proper grip(s). Second, you bash the knife as if it was made with the sole intention of irritating you. Now if this is due to your lack of mastery over the English language, then I apologize. But if you are properly conveying the idea's you have, then I still hold to my previous statement. Third, you have yet to point out a suitable replacement for your needs. Therefore, it seems like the only reason you posted these "reviews" was to bash the knife, and a knife that is well loved by most in the knife community. If I'm wrong, then someone please tell me. But since I'm not the only one that seems to take offense at this, I don't think I'm alone in how I feel.

I don't need to change my suit. You sounds like Yoda from StarWars.

I hope I'm not being rude, but are you using an internet translator to post/read? If so that might explain a lot of the syntax errors and confusion on both ends.
