was wondering how you'd rate goe often you use a knife for the following activities...

whittling/bushcraft:
food prep:
utility cutting:
batoning:
kindling/fuzzsticks:
game processing:
Miscellaneous:

did I forget anything??

What kind of rating scale do you want us to use?

tknife: I think you may have misunderstood what the OP is asking.

my intention was to rate the tasks by importance not nec. the blade but feel free to add any other charectaristice you like...Thanks...how bout a 1-10, 10 being the highest score

For me cutting efficiency is #1

Deep cutting and slicing w/minimal effort.

Ergonomics #2 comfortable handle that won't dig into your hand while doing above

Ease of sharpening #3

whittling/bushcraft: 8
food prep: 8
utility cutting: 9
batoning: 6
kindling/fuzzsticks: 9
game processing: 10
Miscellaneous:

If I understand the pole correctly...

Bushcraft - 10
whittling - 9
food prep: - 8
utility cutting: - 5
batoning: - 0
kindling/fuzzsticks: - 9
game processing: - 5
Miscellaneous: - 2

Because I feel that the rest of the list all combine to be part of Bushcraft, I gave bushcraft a 10 and the rest are rated according to whether or not I am likely to perform the tast with my preferred knife on any given outing.

for a day hike or overnight outing:

whittling/bushcraft: whittling-seldom
food prep: -always
utility cutting: -always and important
batoning: -never, dont believe in it except as a last resort, use a hatchet.
kindling/fuzzsticks: -always
game processing: -occasional, prefer a skeletal fixed blade for this.

Whittling/bushcraft: 9
Food prep: 8
Utility cutting: 8
Batoning: 0
Fuzzsticks:7
Game processing: 9

whittling/bushcraft: 10 I do the whole walk about thing pretty regularly so what I take determines the comfort of stay

food prep: 10 but in all honesty this is really an offshoot of being sharp

utility cutting: 5 anything with an edge will do this

batoning: no but thanks for asking, rough on the equipment and not necessary imo

kindling/fuzzsticks: 5 if its sharp and 7" or greater limbing is easy

game processing: 10, absolutely my #1 knife is not the best for this but whatever folder I take is up up to the task (a bigger knife for quartering of course)

Miscellaneous: this my sound below deck to some of the pro firemakers in here but I have found that the RD7's 5160 steel is very conducive to getting a spark from my firestarter much more so than the BK9 it replaced. So I would rate carbon steel higher than the other misc. steels in a purely survival based equation.

whittling/bushcraft: 10 if your knife can't do it then you are in trouble
food prep: 5 any knife should be able to do this
utility cutting:7 This involves a little more versatility
batoning:10 Not every knife can do this and your life may depend on it
kindling/fuzzsticks:9 most any knife can do this but getting a thin fuzz can also be life saving.
game processing:5 any knife can do this in a survival situation
Miscellaneous:5 Any knife
Likelihood of carrying it: 10 This is most important cause alot of knives can fit the bill but if you are not carrying it then you are in trouble.

This Thread: 10 because it has not been done before.

I think you've nailed it on the head. Now whether or not I actually do these items is another ranking entirely but as for the importance I place on blade design and construction for a woods knife, you've got it exactly.

was wondering how you'd rate goe often you use a knife for the following activities...

*how important in a specifically wilderness knife / edc knives
-how often in times per month
how often | how important*
whittling/bushcraft: every trip- weekly 9/4
food prep: every day 8/9
utility cutting: every day 8/9
batoning: rarely 2/0
kindling/fuzzsticks: near daily 7/7
game processing: ocassionally 7/2
Miscellaneous:
opening bottles/cans: daily 5/9
draw knifing: near daily 2/6
scribing: daily 0/8
drilling: weekly 4/6
chiselling: daily 5/5
scissor cutting: daily ?/8
mechanical: daily 6/9

so, this is a bit complicated because i don't LIVE bushcraft. I do a lot with me edc knives, though. Some of these are general carpentry and knifemaking tasts, kitchen tasks, firemaking- stuff i do every day. I'm not sure how much of that would really change in a survival or extended bush situation, though. If i was deliberately going bush for a month primitive style, a lot of the mechanical type stuff would obviously go away.

But if i was out with my family car camping the east sierra, and the car pooped out when we were 30 miles down some random dispersal trail......
