Ratmandu - Stripped

Before etching metal, it really really has to be absolutely clean, no "I scrubbed it real good" A laser etch has micro channels that hold onto oils of any kind and dont like to let go of them. Oil is incredibly resistant to etch solutions, I found this back in the 80's with circuit boards. You cant get those things clean enough and you have to go to great lengths to get the oil off.

An etching solution can sit on metal for weeks and nothing will happen if there is an oil barrier.

I did some sanding on the Rat and got the marks out. Used 100 grip wrapped around a flat file and took about 20 minutes.

I know, I'm a bad man... but I definitely think it's sexy that way. And about that part:

That is why you pay a premium for satin finishes in the Swamp.

I'm with Turbo on this one.... Those close up pics are nice.... Love that wave on the blade.

But gotta admit, great job:thumbup:

Kjd2121. You are getting there , how many hours of sanding so far ? Jake

The last photos above are after 20 minutes with a flat file wrapped in 100 grit. Didn't take long. I have gone further and removed the longitudinal grind marks on both sides and that was another 30 minutes. I will post more photos later this week.

Please do. I just wonder have you tried wet and dry ? Mine came last week , have you pick out a sheath yet ? Jake
