The final series of my vs threads. 2 have emerged!

Which knife would you rather have with you in the frozen north if you lost your pack and only had your sheath, knife, firesteel?

I guess in that situation the fact that esse has the best warranty around wouldnt make much of a difference, so I would go for the rmd simply because it might be a boost of morale. Lol the rmd is a sexy blade. All kidding a side they are both good knives and I wouldn't feel under knifed with either.

The esee6 for me because of the larger blade and the handle is longer and just feels better in my hand. I also changed the scales on my 6 to the canvas micarta from a esee5 with the bow drill divot. Added the molle back and pouch with my altoids tin of goodies and my esee firekit that i really love and seems the easiest to get a fire going fast with.

take it easy

Chances are, I'd have lost the RMD that was inside my pack since it didn't come with a sheath. I'd bring an ESEE 6.

Ratmandu, because it's always deployed, because you have to carry it around in your hand, because it has no sheath.

Serious answer: Esee 6, because you said it's to be used in the "frozen north" and the injection moulded sheath handles cold weather better than the (most likely) kydex sheath that you'd have to buy for the RMD.

RatManDu, hands down. If I was in a SHTF situation, and all I had was my knife, the better edge retention (at a few points higher Rockwell C) and stouter blade of the RMD would be the clear winner. Plus, I wouldn't have to worry about the handle scales coming off. BTW, forget the plastic sheath and get yourself some nice leather for the same money! Also, SRKW's warranty is as good or better.

+1 esee 6 cus i got one and i know how to use it better. I have it set up with the extra pack w/ the tin can. it rides nice on my side when i hunt. The grips feel good with gloves or not. also if i make it out of the woods i can send it back and get a new one.

doesnt matter.. both are more than adequate blades, id just grab for the closer one and let fate decide which that happened to be.

RMD because it has a thicker tip and is a more stout knife. You'd have a hard time breaking the 6 but I don't know that its possible to break a RMD in normal use. You'd have to do something really, really stupid.

You should really just save up and get both! If you weren't in Canada Id loan you either knife to use so you could see how you like them.

Both are so fantastic though, really you will be just as happy with either one.

ESEE 6 because I don't have a RMD.

But seriously the 6 for me bc of the survival tin integrated in my sheath. It just makes sense.

im new here, but have been reading thread after thread about esee and fallkniven as well as some SRKW.
and in that situation id choose neither.

i rather go with a fallkniven A1. seems to be better on firesteel than coated blades.
the frozen north is a wet environment and the stainless is better for that, although you lose toughness and egde retention compared to the RMD and ESEE. i think the Fallkniven can definitely take just about whatever you can give it.

Question, how do you do better than "no questions asked?"

Just curious.
SRKW does not insinuate you're a moron if you break it, request that you avoid certain activities (e.g. throwing), or post pictures of your broken knife and encourage mockery from fans. ;) No questions asked, no insinuations, no dirty laundry. That's good business. ESEE seems great, and I've now listed my only beef with them.
I love my Izula. ESEE-6 seems a great package deal for a great product from a great company. If I'd already had one, I wouldn't have bought an RMD... But I did and love it. To me, SRKW prices reflect well the quality of materials and workmanship compared to ESEE. A variety of RMD sheaths are available either from SRKW or other makers/manufacturers. The ESEE sheath accessories will also fit RMD sheaths if that's what you want to spend the money on.

To the OP, I'd get the RMD for what I consider superior design, materials, and ergonomics (all reflected in the increased price). ESEE wouldn't be far short though, although I am not convinced that Fallkniven wouldn't be superior to both in the hypothetical scenario (since their low-ball warranty won't make a difference out there), and there are a number of other makers with similar offerings...
