Ratmandu vs FallKniven F1

RMD ergos are wonderful. swamp rat makes awesome american made blades, their warranty is top notch. i don't know about but fallkniven but that is my personal opinion.

Both will do the job - so as it often does- it comes down to aesthetics. IMHO- go with the ratmandu and u cant go wrong. I own two and love them. Not to say I wouldnt mind going into the woods for a long time with a Falky. Both high quality blades. Being from the US and having used a lot of the swamp rats and Busse's - kin etc. I'm always going to side with a company from Ohio-And nobody doubts they make superior knives. just my .02

Torn between these two. Can only get one.

Those two not even comparable! SR have best steel for the job and do best heat treatment - it is "singing blade".
Fallkniven - regular Japanese import with average steel, only placed on market under Swedish brand.

It is like comparing BMW M3 ws Honda Civic.

Was hael, all. New to the forum, old hand with a solid piece of steel. I could help but weigh in and give kudos to the choice of the F1. Haven't seen the Ratmandu, but if it's anything like the F1, tough choice.

Definitely the RMD. I have one and it's a beast in to woods. As stated before you can always get a F1 later but not so with the RMD

Ratmandu= lifetime warranty against abuse of all kinds.

Fallknivem= 2 year warranty which is void if used to pry with.

Hmm. I would choose the ratweiler.

Get the RMD. Its my all time favorite knife. Feels perfect in hand, great steel and lifetime warranty. If I could only keep one knife, it would be the RMD.

Very different knives and a ton of personal factors totally unknown to anyone who has posted, certainly including me.

RMD is longer, but with about same cutting edge length due to large choil Do you like large choils? Some do. Some don't. Your knife, not mine.

F-1 is VG-10 stainless laminated between softer (420J ?) stainless
RMD is excellent carbon steel. (Coating protects everything except area most prone to critical rust damage- the edge.)
Both companies reputation is for excellent heat-treatment of their products.
Do you want a stainless knife? Going to use it a lot around water? Salt water?

F-1 is convex
RMD is saber ground with secondary bevel and coating.
Do you find coated knives cut to your satisfaction?
Any experience with sharpening convex blades? Some dislike. Some say easy.

F-1 blade is slightly thicker.

RMD has larger handle. Which fits you best? How can we know?

Handle material very different. F-1's is significantly softer. Some posters do not like the handle.

F-1 spine better for scraping ferrocerium rods, but I don't know if you want to do that.

Does it matter that Swedish and U.S. military authorize purchase of F-1 for survival knife? That does not matter to me, but it matters to some.

Try to at least handle them. Hand tool. Maybe you did, but I don't know.

Which sheath do you like best? ^____^

I'd go with the RMD as well, I have one, and its very ergonomic, very tough feeling, the steel has good edge holding. With that said the F1 is on my list right after a 3V Bravo-1 and 3V Koster Bushmaster. 1 big plus IMO is the much better warranty of the RMD.

have both, love both but for differant things, these are very differant knives. but give the edge to RMD as a do all knife. also if you find you dont like it selling it will be easy!!

KIA has a better warranty than Lexus, MB, Honda, BMW. That may be important, unless what you wanted was not to need a warranty.

Not that Rat knives are anything but heck for strong.

both knives have a strong following...
the F1 would have been the only consideration outside of the busse family,
but I cant pass up a RMD. thank you all.

For me, it's Ratmandu, not that they are very similar, but the RMD is more comfortable to use, has a bigger blade, and it just looks sick
