Tha ratmandu also has a more usable choil. Which means better!!!
True..... The factory RMD is well designed and has very little need for any modifications.
The HRLM has a choil that is too small for function, but too large for a sharpening choil (IMO).
* However, modifying the choil on the HRLM is a common and easy modification.

********** Just be careful to not over-heat the blade if using any power-tools. Always keep the blade cool to the touch. With power tools, don't use ANY sort of high speed stone type bench-grinder!!!! Those generate massive heat in seconds.
Use low turning speeds and only keep in contact for a few seconds at a time or less. Dunking in water helps cool if needed. But, if edge or blade gets too hot, you can damage the temper!

I use a drum sander on my drill press. You can buy a variety of about 5 sizes of drum sander tips from Sears or Amazon.

By reshaping/regrinding the choil on the HRLM, you will remove the coating. So, you will have a stripped choil with a coated blade. .... Or, you can strip the coating off the blade. Personally, I strip mine anyway. There are lots of threads on stripping the coatings and that is another story.
Once the choil is modified, the HRLM is a VERY good knife.
Choosing between the two IMO is more about what your intended uses for the knife are. They are both very good.
