rats and firesteels

ive got a rat rc-4 in the mail and was wondering if the back of the blade could be used with a firesteel, i dont want to ruin the edge of the knife,i plan on using this knife as my primary backpacking knife.
 
not with the coating on there, I know a few people like to strip the coating off a small section of the spine to use as a striker. :thumbup:
 
if you dont want to use the edge, just get a firesteel that comes with a piece of metal that acts as a striker
 
to answer your question yes it can but you must remove some of the paint/Coating so the steel from the blade has contact with ferro rod. prolly would not hurt to put a small lip on the spine with sandpaper if needed.
 
I wouldn't strip mine ... why not just keep a dedicated striker attached to the firesteel ?
I have a small piece of a carbon steel hacksaw that works like a charm.
