Rats and Ontario Rats...

I used the search feature 1st. saves a lot of time & grief. Keep up the good work & I will buy RAT over Ontario as RAT is the best.

All this talk about being friends and having no animosity is fine and dandy, but the
simple fact of the matter is, that I exercised my prerogative as a member of the knife
buying public and haven't purchased an Ontario product since this started.

It is a small industry indeed!

I originally bought an Ontario Rat-3 knife. Was very happy with it. Then I did some more research and found the Rat Cutlery website. After looking at the cool website for a while, I then decided to purchase an RC3Mil. I was blown away with the quality, fit and finish of the Rat Cutlery RC3Mil knife compared to my Rat-3. I liked it so much, I almost immediately ordered an RC-5 to go along with it. It did not dissapoint:) I will continue to buy Rat Cutlery knives. They are that good.

Oh wow, i had no idea this was a point of contention.

I second the vote for a sticky, I actually looked for one since i figured it would be a question you guys see a lot.
(and search is down for non-paying members)

I have learned that when you get upset or angry at someone else, then you're simply letting them control you. It's much easier to just be nice and go forward with life regardless.

No need for a sticky on this.

Jeff,
Your giving free lessons away for survival training!

You know, that's a pretty true statement. Coincidentally, I am working on a wilderness survival powerpoint presentation to go along with our domestic survival class. One of the biggest points made in our classes is to accept things the way they are and not let them change your will power. You start fighting the wilderness and you will die while it laughs at you.

Wow, the last two posts by Jeff are great advice. I know I'd do well to remember it. Thanks Jeff.

And to the OP, I was once in your position. I went with RAT and couldn't have been happier. Spend your money on a stand up company like Rat Cutlery with owners who value their customers, and be happy about it. Besides, the difference in price is easily worth it considering the increase in quality and the WARRANTY.

Be advised though, once the RAT bug bites, there's no cure.

This is probably the best advice I have heard in a long time.

No need for a sticky on this.

I think you missed my point.
A bunch of folks like me must come wandering in just wanting to know why knives named RAT are sold by two diff companies and if they are the same product.

A simple, 'just the facts sticky' could actualy prevent this dead horse from being repeatedly beaten.

Something very brief along these lines would do fine: "We used to work with Ontario, we don't anymore. They're still making the knives we designed for them when we did."

Thanks. I've got a RAT TAK by Ontario (in D2). I've had it for a few years and used it camping and as part of my survival kit. The original sheath was utter crap so I got some new pants from Semper Paratus--much better.

I wasn't really aware of the history of Ontario RAT and RC; I was always a bit confused about this. I'm glad I read this thread. I've got an RC-4 ordered and am looking forward to comparing the two--I think the RC-4 is fairly similar to the TAK, but I like 1095 better than D2.

I have to say - the first RC knife I bought was a bit provoked and spurned by the contraversy. The second knife I bought was because of how much I liked the first product. The third knife I bought was because it filled a niche. The fourth knife I'll buy....well it will have a personalized ratpack # on it and be in orange G10. The fifth knife I'll buy will be some big ass knife chopper that Mr. Perrin asked us for input on. The sixth knife I'll buy - well I'll probably to get a duplicate of the one of the first five. The seventh knife I'll buy - maybe I'll just breakdown after all and get that thick prybar of the RC5...the eighth knife I buy...hmm I don't want to get too far a head of myself now :D :D :D

KGD...man...you are a bad influence...I'd only get an RC-3 if I needed an RC-3...oh, wait, I do need an RC-3....:D
