RAT's Tek-Lok?

If I buy a RC-4 that comes with a Molle type sheath, can I add a Tek-Lok or is it a separate sheath all together?

Can someone explain the Tek-Lok in "laymens" terms? Is it just a mounting system that lets you mount the knife just about anyway and anywhere you want?

Here's a couple pages that might help you out.

There are three basic ways to attach the sheath to your equipment, the Molle back, the Molle locks, or a TekLok. Any of the three can be attached the the RC-3 or RC-4 sheath that comes with knife by screwing it on with the included Chicago screws.

Most of the RAT knives come with the Molle locks, the Molle back is included with some kits, and the TekLok is usually sold separately.

My Ontairo RAT-3 came with a Kydex sheath and a Tek Lok. I'd had experience with the Tek Lok before, but not with a knife sheath. Unless RC has made some modifications to the Kydex sheath that was provided with the RAT3, you will have a small problem with the Tek Lok (hereafter TK).
- Mounting holes in the Kydex sheath are not designed to work exclusively with the TK. You can mount the sheath in a couple of positions, but you'll find that it just won;t mount in that one position that you want it to. The mounting will almost work, but be far enough off to prevent it. It's frustrating.

I'm disappointed with my TK/Kydex combo. The Kydex sheath was designed, then somebody came along and said "Hey, look at this cool Tek Lock. I wonder if it'll work on our sheath". "Hey! It works in a couple of mounting positions. Cool! Let's send it out as a package deal with our RATs!!"

Better would be to design a sheath around the TK. Easy. Problems (ALL) solved.

You can buy small and large Tek Loks for a variety of purposes - camping, hiking, gear attachment elsewhere, etc. Look for them at CountyComm and elsewhere.

I haven't had any issues with multiple mounting options on my RAT RC-4 knives. I can't speak for the Ontario made knives though. The Teklok works perfectly.

Or you can forgoe the teklock and just use paracord to form your belt loops. This is how I like to wear it - no added bulk.

Nice idea with the paracord. I'm gonna swipe it and remove the Tek-Lok from my Ontario RAT-3 sheath. Thanks.
