Raven Funeral

I was not trying to anthropomorphise. I get great enjoyment observing all creatures in nature. Birds are the subject of much of my sculpture.
I share my studio with a blue and gold macaw that has been with us for 23 years. He is quite a character. He greets me in the morning by saying Hi Bird. He enjoys jazz, and loves little kittens and gets all excited when my teen aged daughter comes into the room but if I leave him out of his cage unsupervised he will wreck the place.

Great raven story I heard from some folks I know in Juneau, Alaska...

Apparently a couple ravens took to raiding food out of a dumpster behind a local restaurant. After a while, they seemed to get tired of eating the scraps. One day, one of ravens took a old dinner roll to a nearby stream and started dropping pieces into the water. The other one started catching fish as they came up to eat the bread pieces.

Normally, I wouldn't believe a story like that, but the people who told it to me are not the sort to make up stuff like that.

That behaviour has been widely documented with herons, I have actually seen herons using bait for fishing my self.

That's very cool. I really enjoy watching herons, but I've never had the fortune to see them bait hunting. Such graceful birds, but super aggressive hunters.
