raw linseed oil vs BLO vs tung oil vs anything else

True, but mineral oil in my experience will eventually evaporate essentially completely, and will still allow water penetration into the wood unless it's still quite wet.

The linseed and other wood oils will cure, leaving a hardened residue/finish within the wood, creating the barrier.

Has anyone ever used deck stain/sealer to use waterproof/UV protect a handle??? The wood I am using is fade prone to UV.
I thought to myself if pine boards last after a treatment with this stuff why not use it on a axe or shovel handle that will get some abuse.
I bought a small can of Olympic clear sealer/stain . It has a 3 year warranty for exterior use. The same thing with coloring has a higher warranty. I am going to play with it on some test pieces.
Please chime in if you know anything about it.

I've used Olympic products on decks. On an axe handle, it would probably do a similar job as the varnish that's applied at the handle factory (and often diligently removed by the end user before applying linseed or BLO or tung oil.) Oiled wood has a better feel than varnished or polyurethaned wood.

I just finished a hammer rehang with hard oil wax floor finish. I bought a 2.5L can with a $115 tag on it for $1 at an estate sale, and as it is some combination of tung/BlO/paraffin and is formulated to be walked on and durable I figured that it might be a great tool handle finish. The finish was great and fells nice and I assume is super durable. The only downsides and expense (but any amount may be a lifetime supply) and that it needs to be applied with either gloves or a paintbrush. Also, it probably does not soak in very deep to BLO first may be recommended. In any case, I like the feel and I think that it is a super tough finish.
