Recently I traded my single blade Cover trapper to my bud Rob Thomason. Knowing that it went to a good home helped lessen the grieving process but nonetheless that fine knife was and is missed. (Especially since it had some great bloodlines having come to me by way of another good friend, Ford, (fewpop.)
In keeping with excellent bloodlines, the third leg of this excellent triumvirate, Mike Robuck, allowed me some months back to piggy back on an open order he had with Ray Cover, Sr. (I won't steal Mike's thunder and reveal what he's getting, he can post about it when it arrives.)
I opted for a double blade trapper with bone stag since I had been smitten by some images posted by Durwood of some he has been lucky enough to own.
Arriving today, all I can tell you is that this knife has exceeded my expectations in every way.
The fit and finish are superb as I had come to experience on the single blade model. The half stops are crisp, the blades centered and very well sharpened. Backsprings exhibit excellent tension.
The knife is 4" closed with blades of 3". (The spey slightly shorter.)
The bone stag (from Sheffield) is killer in both color, texture and quality. Scales are dovetailed and fit very precisely.
Weight comes in right at 4.5 oz.
If there's a better knife than this for the money (or twice the money), I don't know what it is.
Here are a few shots taken in a rush to get something posted. Don't blame Ray's artistry for my bad photography.
