Recently I traded my single blade Cover trapper to my bud Rob Thomason. Knowing that it went to a good home helped lessen the grieving process but nonetheless that fine knife was and is missed. (Especially since it had some great bloodlines having come to me by way of another good friend, Ford, (fewpop.)

In keeping with excellent bloodlines, the third leg of this excellent triumvirate, Mike Robuck, allowed me some months back to piggy back on an open order he had with Ray Cover, Sr. (I won't steal Mike's thunder and reveal what he's getting, he can post about it when it arrives.)

I opted for a double blade trapper with bone stag since I had been smitten by some images posted by Durwood of some he has been lucky enough to own.

Arriving today, all I can tell you is that this knife has exceeded my expectations in every way.

The fit and finish are superb as I had come to experience on the single blade model. The half stops are crisp, the blades centered and very well sharpened. Backsprings exhibit excellent tension.

The knife is 4" closed with blades of 3". (The spey slightly shorter.)
The bone stag (from Sheffield) is killer in both color, texture and quality. Scales are dovetailed and fit very precisely.
Weight comes in right at 4.5 oz.

If there's a better knife than this for the money (or twice the money), I don't know what it is.

Here are a few shots taken in a rush to get something posted. Don't blame Ray's artistry for my bad photography. :p

That jigged bone stag is awesome. I think I picked the wrong knife and handle material! Glad you like it.

Elliott,it looks fantastic! Congrats.Perfect timing for Fall.

Very nice Elliott! That is a really great looking piece by one of my favorite makers. Ray's fit and finish are par excellance, imho. Ya' done good my friend.

Thanks for the kind words, also. :)

Can't wait to see what Mike got. (His will probably need a purse. :p :D)

Oh man! Not only a two blade Cover but amazing bone too.
(I must have scrolled down to have another look 1/2 dozen just while trying to get this response typed)

I personally think that is one of the best handle material for Ray's larger knives and thus the reason I have so much of it...Here are a few of my folding hunters. It's not real obvious in this pic, but there are 2 sizes here. Two like Blues just got and two of the next size up. The larger size are 4 3/8" closed, but also bigger all the way around.

I never picked that up from the photo, Durwood. Thanks for pointing that out.

That said, I think that the 4" size is just about perfect for about anything you'd want a pocketknife for.

Not quite sure,but I had one,once,lol...and I think it was 4-1/4" clsd
Durwood,quit showin' off :)
And Mike,lemme guess,that screwball mailman you got,no show ?

Elliott, very nice R. Cover, Sr. folder!! I like it a lot. Ray must not be spending all of his time in that new R.V.??

I need to ask about this 'piggy back' business?? Well, maybe not?? ;)

Thanks for sharing this special piece...

That is a most excellent knife! The bone stag is gorgeous. Congratulations!

Would have liked it my collection though, :grumpy: I have a few of Ray's and he always does a great job with fit and finish. Love the Stag handles, maybe one day I will be fortunate to score one too.:D

Congrats on your addition to your collection

James, I think it's time to switch to decaf. I'm just sayin'.... :p

Elliott sent his payment faster than I did but I should have mine this week.

Ford, I'll have you know I've been purse free since mid-summer.

I have always admired how well Ray grinds his blades. Very clean with no uneven lines or irregularities, and with a fine edge bevel.

WoooooHoooo! that sure is a purdy knife. I wish I knew the formula for coloring bone like that:eek:

Hey Elliott and Ford,

You fellers left a couple of these lying around my house recently.

Thanks for coming by even though you both probably felt a little bloated and were a little cranky. Elliott, that idea of yours for carrying Maxi pads in a belt sheath on heavy flow days is a real wiener in my book.
