I have been watching the sales thread. Ray Laconico's knives seem quite in demand.
As a matter of fact it looks like it is quite hard to catch one.

What is it about him or his knives that makes them so popular and so desired?

Top notch fit and finish and his eye for economy of design make his knives hard to find.

I have one of Ray's knives, a gaucho-inspired blade that he custom made for me.

One of the things that drew me to Ray's work was the very clean appearance of his knives. His designs and their execution are excellent. He is also easy to work with. On top of that his knives are a very good value.

Ray makes super knives. I have five of his Bowies all of them a great knives, fit, finish, and grinds second to none. I don't go for the real fancy stuff so Rays knives suit me just right.

In my opinion his Bowies are some of the best out there for the prices he charges. Also a great guy to deal with. Here's three of them

Simply put, Ray is awesome. His designs are super clean and simple. Never handled one of his knives, but his fit and finish seem to be some of the cleanest I've seen. To be honest, I am shocked to see some of the prices he puts on his work. No wonder they don't last long.

Ray has helped me make my knives a whole lot better. I spend way less time doing finish work now because of the advice he has so freely given to me. What used to take me an afternoon to perfect, I can now do in a couple of passes on my grinder thanks to him.

:thumbup::thumbup: Ray's knives are so clean they are incredible... His attention to detail is perfect from what I have seen.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Ray & he was quite the gentleman; his workmanship says alot about the man. Bill

Ray has been getting a lot of love recently.

I can't think of a more deserving recipient; he always seems willing to help and his knives ain't bad either.

Like folks have said, finish quality, clean minimalist flow of design or style, good in use in the field, every one I have handled felt good in the hand. He is willing to work with customer ideas (and to say when those ideas get silly), and I think his work has great value.
I have bought four, and one was for me! The others were gifts, including the only sax (I think) he has made.

Oh, and SHARP :-)

There's a good reason folks call him the "King of Clean." I plan on buying at least two frame-locks and one bowie from him.

I got to meet Ray at the Visalia hammer in last year(closely studying his work) and all the people posting are right. The man makes some incredibly clean knives that not only look great but feel fantastic in the hand. Plus he's about as nice and humble as a guy can get.

clean minimalist designs, a nice blend of old-school and modern styling, simple, user-friendly, with some class. Wish he still made a nice leather sheath with each one
