Ray Laconico Knives

Bah.. his knives are "all right".
I think you guys should just send them all to me. I'll figure something out.:D

:thumbup:Two thumbs up:thumbup:

I visit Ray regularly and have seen quite a few of his knives. What everyone else says is true - impeccable blade grinds, outstanding fit and finish. Ray is a good guy, too. Here are a few that ended up coming home with me:

What everyone is saying is true. :)

Ray's knives have excellent fit and finish. I had one of his earlier fixed blade knives several years ago and it was simple, yet perfectly executed.

I've e-mailed him a few times for advice and he's always willing to help. Some well known makers won't reply to e-mails unless it's an order, but Ray's one of the good guys. :)

Is there some secret to get into Ray's site via the link in his sig? All I am seeing is something to sign up for a photo hosting site.

The pics posted here are very enticing indeed. Some nice work!

Guys, thanks again for the kind words.

dwarthog, I don't have a website. That was a link to my old picture hosting site but it doesn't work anymore. I'll have to take it out. Thanks.

Ray, will you be making your pocket bowies again? Missed getting one when you were making them regularly a few years back.

I have a bunch of Rays knives and have to say they are far and away my favorite knives and Ray is the guy I look for when I go to the sale forum by maker. Ray has always been great to deal with and I really can't say enough about his knives - its pretty much been covered already. I would say that until you have one in your hands you do not know how good they really are, the pictures do not do them justice.

Ray, don't let it go to your head, or you will start raising your prices!

All kidding aside, I have told him that his knives are priced too low. Before he started making knives, he was an artist - oil paints, pencil drawings - and did that very well. You can see the artist perfectionist in his work. I have handled quite a few of his knives, and the consistency of the quality is what really stands out.

Alot of it is time. Ray takes the time to make sure every detail of the knife is perfect. His pointers have helped me even though I know I will never be able to make knives on his level. And he is a friend and a good sport when Mike and I pick on him at lunch. Well, Mike does most of the picking! I just try to stay off the receiving end! And he is very humble. I hope to add a framelock to the slipjoint he made when I finish my degree and get a real job!

I am glad that I know Ray.

Thank you all very much. This has been very helpful. I really appreciate all your comments. It sounds like Ray is a man of good character with a heart for sharing his time and knowledge. It appears that he is a maker whose great talent is matched by his passion for excellence. And it is a pleasure to find that he is one of the most rare types of knifemakers; the kind which charges a price for his knives that a) he would feel comfortable paying and b) make them affordable enough to work hard and put away without ritualistic cleaning.

Ray, I look forward to owning a couple of your knives. - Paul
