Ray Mears is coming to Ontario.

I just stumbled upon this, I'm interested.

I wonder how many of my kidneys I would have to sell for this event.:D

$3000.00 was what I heard.

From another site by a fellow connected with the sponsor organization (his tag name is EnglishmaninOntario)

Some good news and bad news on the pricing - it's not going to be as insanely expensive as the Norway trip, but still VERY pricey (as expected). The current number being talked about is $3500 CDN (plus applicable taxes if you're in Canada). This may go up or down slightly, but I expect the final cost won't be too far off that.

This is for a 5 day course with an expected enrollment of about 25 people, as the sources say.

I just got a response from the company sponsoring the event. Here is the info they sent me:

The course is $3,500 + applicable taxes, this includes food and accommodation and Ray will be teaching for the full 5 days. All other information that I have is at www.schoolinthewoods.ca

I was super excited, until I heard that. That is a bit too rich for my blood. :grumpy:

He needs a new Hummer? Buying some sacred land? I wouldn't expect him to do a hands-on five day seminar for free by any means, but I don't see the reason for the fees. Someone enlighten me please?

Wow I'd want a Woodlore and a hooker thrown in for that !

Can't really see Ray teaching anything that Kevin Estela couldn't !

I was going to mention that at that price the seminar should include a Hilton, nightly tuck-in with a happy ending... but I didn't. I'm proud of me. :)

Wow that seems a bit steep. Cody Lundin's course ultimate abo for 9 days is a 1000 less. Guess it's worth it if you have the money to spend.

I don't want to sound too vain but I'm proud to say I have enough bushcraft experience and knowledge to know that 3K wouldn't be a smart investment. That # could buy some nice equipment upgrades instead.

Its a far better use of money than it is to buy knife after knife after knife without any knowledge on how to use them effectively. That being said, you wont see me shelling out 3 grand for a 5 day course unless its a 5 day Masters Degree.

I know I watch too much tv and I am too aware of what my students talk about in regard to pop culture; when I read this I thought, I would prefer a Kardashian over a Hilton;)

Lol! I seriously doubt that I have Ray's knowledge or skillset, but being an old Codger, I've had my share of adventures over the years. No doubt I would learn something, possibly many things (and I might even teach Ray a thing or two), but I would rather use three grand for a year's groceries at my age.

Well, I guess its market value. I will imagine that he will fill his quota on this one. Just think about all those survival instructors out there running smaller schools who might shell out the money just to put 'trained with Ray Mears' on their bio's. Mor's probably has relatively few more years of teaching ahead of him. I imagine the Mear's name will stand out as one of the premiere must haves in the future in order to demonstrate you ability to teach proper use of a firesteel.

Smirks and kidding. Despite the cost, I think it is wonderful that Mr. Mears is coming to Ontario. I can't afford to attend myself, but it is fantastic to know that not 4 hours away from me there are groups where bushcraft is alive and thriving to such an extent as to organize something like this. Not too shabby!

Holy Crap! $4K for a chat to uncle Ray

If I want to learn outdoors stuff from people, I just offer to pay half the cost of the gas for the trip and bring along some rum and repartee :D

I don't know how much Bear's class was, but I doubt it was more than a couple of hundred dollars for the three days. From the pictures and descriptions, they seemed to cover a lot from building shelter, trapping, and food prep. I'd go with a local, lesser known survival school for value. Or as Noddy suggest, hooking up with some outdoorsy buddies who are more experience and willing to show you some things out in the field. Maybe in exchange for imparting some knowledge of your own on something. Ray Meers is awesome and I'm sure those who take his class will be happy they did. A bit like getting guitar lessons from Eric Clapton. Isn't there someone in Southern California who's a knife maker and could show me how to sharpen my various knives? I can't seem to seem to handle sharpening my small victorinox flat ground knives or my convex edged Busse knives (which hold their edge forever it seems). Or someone who knows trapping and other bushcraft skills really well. I could teach guitar and karaoke singing. :p

On the map it looks like it is a few minutes outside Mississauga. That right?
