Hi guys, I've looked everywhere for the makers of the parang that British survivalist Ray Mears uses. Really greatful if someone could help me out with this. With the masses of knowledge here, someone must know what maker does this parang style

That was a cool video. Initially I didn't like the looks of this tool but after seeing it used I think it's pretty cool. I've never seen a Parang before. Is it a common tool? Where does it originate? I don't know where you could buy one but I'm sure there are many guys here would love to make one for you. (That includes me ;) )

It's not a machete. It's a parang. South East Asian parang.

In Peninsular Malaysia it is called as Parang Pendek or Parang Lading Pendek (i.e. as shown in the above picture). In Sarawak it is called as Parang Candung or Duku Candung. Duku is a Dayak word for parang. In Indonesia it is called as Parang Bandol.

IIANM David Farmers makes few US version of parangs. Looks good to me. Suwandi of Valiantco is offering the Indonesian version which is the Parang Bandol. The one shown in your first posting looks more like a Parang Candung or Duku Candung of East Malaysia (i.e. Sarawak).

Email me if you think you want the Malaysian version of parang. I'm not a seller but I can give you few email addresses so that you can ask around

This is the model as close as I could find to Ray Mears parang. It doesn't have the smae rustic look but the shape is almost near.

I would really liek to find the original maker to. I managed to get a screen shot close up of Ray Mears parang that he used in the Trip Money Cant Buy film. It looks like a maker mark on the scabbard.
Can this help anyone?

IMVHO Nik should know!
Anyhow I think Nik also must be fully aware about the legality of locally shipping number of dukus (i.e. 04, 08, 18, 21, 24, 30, 36 etc etc etc) to Kuala Lumpur collectors :)

Assalam Mohd.
Yes. I'm frm KL and newbies here. A few years searching and looking the beautiful duku. Purpose for personal use, not for collection or trade and not relate to any 'numbers' :). seem like light weight and practical for tropical jungle, suitable for outdoor activity, jungle treckking, camping, fishing etc.
Here one of my favorite Duku, awesome tool for chopping but quite heavy for jungle treckking.
