Ray Mears Parang Machete

The website below is from someone (I believe Keong is his name) who is in contact with traditional makers in the provinces (Malaysia). The plus is that he modifies the traditional construction to make them far sturdier and does QC work with all of the parangs (i.e. - he pins and glues the blades).

For the rest who are in the West, as was mentioned already, Ben Orford of the UK and Daniel Winkler (WKII Jungle Knife) make great pieces too.

Just found out about Dorset Woodland Blades in the UK. Unlike Ben Orford's which has a more traditional look, this one looks somewhat of a melding between the usual parang candong (Malaysian) and a design we call a panabas (Filipino).

Thank I did a batch last year that the SERE Jungle team bought for the Instructor courses and again had no problems in use

I saw al 'Period these very educational reports, much more interesting than those of Bear Grylls

The primitive blades of Southeast Asia are top notch in quality, design, and function. The theatre is historically rich when it comes to edged weapons in warfare. Some think the history of the Samurai impressive, but they likely haven't delved into the history of the people that inhabit the islands to the southeast....
