Here is one that you have seen on the Ray Mears Video: LINK

It is simple to make and easy to set. This one is much easier for me than the figure four - but requires more batoning or hand axe work than others.

I find it easy to make when you have a small saw, a bushcraft blade, and perhaps (but not needed) an hand axe.

I built this one with a Koster Bushcraft and a SAK farmer.

I put some marker on one piece to give a contrast:

Make the trigger stick with a thin stick or it will not hold. A thin stick that is light weight at the tip is good - this is what Ray mean's when he says a 'fine trigger'.

Does that make sense - do you need more pics?

Good one, another for the mental tool box. It gains vertical support from that 'ground' piece contacting the upper piece, while also being clasped by the trigger stick for horizontal support, is that correct?

If so, certainly sounds like it'd be easier to setup than the figure 4.

huh... i've never seen that one before... it's pretty cool.. thanks for the link and great pics...:)

Spooky,

That is exactly right. Weight is transferred from the stepped top piece to the chamfered bottom piece and they are held together by the trigger. It is FAR easier to set up that the figure four. And with the wide base given by the larger wood - it is more stable in my opinion. Also, with this design you do not have to worry about the support stick holding up the weight as it falls accidentally.

Thanks for the clarification! I like that trap, I'll have to go play around with that for a while...
