Does Ray Mears have any DVD's out?? I know I can get snippets of his stuff on YouTube, but id rather buy the DVD's.. Also, he's written lots of books... If I was to just buy one or two, which two should they be?? Are his books any good?

He has a pretty good website, with videos there: http://www.raymears.com/

I've yet to pick up his books, but I LOVE all of his videos. Much more bushcraft than survival, which I like quite a bit. He's my favorite of the people to have their own show.

Hey naked, I thought Ray's videos weren't playable on U.S. dvd players because of the formatting. Do they work?

I actually haven't used the DVD's. I found a site that had them for download, so I watch quite a bit of them that way, but deleted after the fact as I was (and still am) planning on buying them. In a conversation with "HuntFlix", he mentioned something similar. I know there are ways around regional lock downs, but my experience is limited to computers.

Anyone else know?

I just sent them an email asking if there DVD's would work here. I'll post back any response I get.

British DVDs are Region2 and will not play on US Region1 players. The only way around it is to buy a multi-region player or play them on your computer. For the PC try VLC or Media Player Classic as they are region free (With the right codec downloads).

Here is their response:

Thank you for your enquiry. I am happy to inform you that all of Ray’s DVDs are manufactured in the All-region format, meaning that they will pose no problems on American players. I hope this helps.

I had one I got off ebay that wouldnt' play on my player but Bens Backwoods has them and they say all region so maybe he's changed them.

i taped a few of mears' programs years ago when they were on the travel channel. great stuff. by far the most enjoyable survival/bushcraft vids i've seen.

He has many series out the latest is the "Walkabout" Australia series.
I believe the UK Amazon site has Mears videos.
It would be nice if Discovery Channel started playing his stuff instead of Bear!
Outdoor life Network in Canada occasionally plays Mears's "Extreme Survival" and "Bushcaft" series.
I think i've seen pretty much everything Mears has done.
Yay internet!
:)
