One of the threads today had a link to a video on youtube with Ray Mears. I started going through them but I would like the full length versions. They looked pretty informational. I found a couple of places to buy them online but before I do I thought that I would ask here if they are worthwhile. I don't want to waste my money on useless information or get something like Bear Grylls advice. Also what do you think of his book. There's probably a lot about it on the forum but I let my gold membership expire and haven't renewed yet so I can't search.

Ray Mear's is one of my favorite outdoor personalities. No attitude or overacting. Pure and simple bushcraft. Perhaps one of the most influential writers who inspired me over the years to do more outdoors.

I would add that he's a very good "instructional" video producer. I had one and it walked off in Iraq:mad:, but I plan to pick up a few more in the future. He won't be jumping off cliffs or drinking fluid from elephant dung, but I've found the one video I had very entertaining.

I thought that I remembered hearing good things about him. I've been going back and forth between here and youtube tonight looking at the video clips. Anyone know where to buy the videos here in the US?

I find his Extreme Survival to be the best series.
I own season 1 and 2 of Ray Mears bushcraft, and it's not the same. I can watch them 100's of times, but Extreme Survival, maybe 1000s

i've trained with mears, expensive compared to the states, even if you don't consider travel cost, but I've always been a huge fan and it is my goal to one day become a certified instructor. He a great guy, knows his stuff, open minded and has worked to improve his methods. His book is good but not something that I would say is superior to many other wilderness books. Recently I've been very impressed with Les's book! You can download ray mears torren but its about 15 gig large and you need to have fast internet connection otherwise pay for the dvd they aren't that expensive.
