I had been wanting to get a re-grind done on my Hinderer XM24's Spanto blade for a while and decided, based on examples of his work and what I'd read, to PM Josh at Razor Edge Knives about costs and possible blade grinds. Josh got right back, answered my initial questions, and sent me pics of various Hinderer re-grinds to help in my decision making. What followed was a long series of PMs hashing out just what I might choose and delineating costs, wait times, etc. Josh was extremely helpful and patient with me as I decided what I wanted, laying out the various options. His website is very complete and spells everything out in terms of shipping, lead times, costs, etc. along with providing many pics of his work. Aside from re-grinds, Josh sharpens, Cerakotes, and provides other knife services.

Anyway, I sent the knife in for a high, shallow, hollow grind in 600 grit. Josh was great as I waited, promptly answering all messages and making sure of the exact specs I wanted as I did change my mind a time or two. Despite suffering a significant hand injury over the summer, Josh stayed close to his original completion date, stayed in touch, and went so far as to amend the lead-times posted on his website accordingly. He texted me a couple blade-only pics as soon as the re-grind was done, asking about re-finishing the swedge, and sent me another couple pics of the knife re-assembled and sharpened the next morning. I got the shipping notice with tracking straight away, paid my bill, and knife was in the hands of the USPS that afternoon.

So, if this were regular feedback, I'd say something like..."super responsive, great comms, very professional, quick shipping, excellent work". Josh is a good dude who does fantastic work and I highly recommend him if you're looking for any of the services he provides. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, so here's my beautifully re-ground, super-sharp XM24....

Well, right back atcha, PeteyTwoPointOne PeteyTwoPointOne ! I had to go to Trading Stats to remember what deal we did, and my son loves that ScotchBrited StarTac user you sold me. I gotta get it in for a ChazzyP spa treatment coz he beats the crap out of his knives.

This thread isn't about us, though, so to reiterate--JOSH IS DA MAN!

Josh currently has about $1200 worth of my knives. In the past I let him sharpen my custom Dark Timber, by far the rarest and most expensive knife I own. I trust Josh 110%. He does amazing work and is a genuinely nice guy. I usually sharpen my own blades, and when I don't Josh is the only person I let touch my knives. He is the best in the business.

I first met (online) and dealt with Josh early this year. The transaction was complex, simply because of the nature of the transaction, and it involved some ongoing work at the project management level - I was putting together a fundraising benefit for cancer research, and Josh was delivering some of the prizes. Josh stepped up, and took over the PM functions to the point where I did not have to worry about this part of the fundraiser at all. I counted on Josh to work on both the technical delivery and management.

(This stands in epic contrast to another provider who not only did what I would consider slightly "shaky" work for me, but also never really stepped up to the plate. The "epic contrast" comes into play in that this other provider is having significant delivery problems on other projects now, while Josh continues to thrive.)

Josh's work at a technical level is first rate. I've not met anybody else who can keep up with him, and I absolutely hold him in the highest regard.

Sent Josh some questions the other night and he called me to discuss it asap. He's done plenty of work for me and he's top notch every time always going the extra mile. The only downside is all you people found out about him and he's currently swamped with work. :-) Totally worth the wait though and you better get it done before he starts making his own knives like all the big pimpers seem to do eventually.

One of the pics Josh sent me was of your harpoon, Don, and that helped me decide on the shallow, hollow grind for mine.
That's my fav Hinderer. A truely unique work of art from Josh. The shallow hollow grind cuts like laser. I hope you like yours too.

I got a small knife in the mail the other day. The PO clerk is a friend of my son's and knows we're both knife knuts. He asked if the small flat-rate box was another "huge" knife, so I took out my XM24, stood the box on its spine, and push-cut the end right off to show him. "Damn that's sharp'" he said. No sh*t--just an amazing blade, and yeah, I love it.

I used mine to shorten a leather belt. My father in law who was beside me cannot believe his eyes that I effortlessly sliced the leather belt in one smooth cut. He said the same thing "Damn that's sharp!" LOL

I posted in another thread that the only downside here was that until I got my knife back from Josh, I thought I was getting pretty good at sharpening. o_O

Going to bump this one rather than add what would probably be the hundredth "Josh is great" thread.

Just got back two knives from him. One was a pretty thorough regrind. The other was to add a little jimping to a flipper tab.

Big or small projects, Josh handles them all with professionalism and craftsmanship.
