OK, I just finished watching it! It was well worth it. I have the Razor Edge Book of Sharpening, but nothing can replace watching John's son Joe first grind in the relief and then grind the primary and secondary edge using the Razor Edge Guide. If I hadn't seen the video I would have never really understood the sharpening motion. Now I do.
One thing I don't know if I can bring myself to do, however, is to grind in that relief and totally mess up the edge of my blade! It seems like it will scratch the hell out of it. I can get my knives decently sharp using my Spyderco 204. And I can keep the edge good longer by using my Razor Edge portable smooth steel. And I plan to buy Razor Edge's Mousetrap Steel for my kitchen, and can steel my folders using that, as well. But taking one of my nice folders and scratching the hell out of the blade to put in the relief - is it worth it? If you've done it, please let us know.
Even if I don't use Juranitch's method completely, I learned about the burr from his book, and several other useful techniques (steeling, safety, etc.).
Thanks for this opportunity, Pahl! You are a great Bladeforumer.
I'm mailing the video today to RifRaf via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.
