I would like a companion knife for my Bravo-1. I would like something so sharp that you can shave with it :) as sharp as possible.
I would use it for carving mostly.
Easy to sharp - so I can keep it in a razor sharp condition.
So the sharpest little beast you can think of.

Thanks

For carving, I would definately recommend a puukko. If price is not an issue, I would go for a Tommi puukko, or some other hand made average / small puukko. For example, the second one on this page:

I've used one of those, and I ended up buying an identical knife blade from Markku Vilppola for a puukko-project Im working on. That is one sharp knife, and the edge geometry works especially well in whittling / carving.

Also, the Nikkari from Roselli in UHC steel might fit your needs.

I dont think of BRANDS or DESIGNS as the cure for a dull edge...you have to sharpen them yourself. Give me any knife and depending on how dull it was..I can get it shaving sharp, pretty quickly. I guess that your question, asking for the sharpest knife around....well it is tough to answer.
I would say that a Leuko is a great carver and chopper all rapped into one. Not to much money either.

Yes, sharpening skills are important too. But I believe the knife design and type of material is important too. I am looking for something around 100$.
Somethink small - that I can piggyback on my bravo-1 leather sheath. Something I would use for detail work.

attej - thanks for the reply. I don't really like that type of handle :(

I love my B R '07 T.U.S.K. - the smaller one may be what you want. Mine is a dedicated carver - great for framing/undercutting. The smaller one may be a tad better for finer cuts for some. The design is perfect for a lot of whittling/carving - and the convex edge can be made quite sharp - and A2 will stay that way.

I have the BRK&T PSK coupled to my Bravo 1 and my son has a Northstar coupled with a Mikro C.II .... both Excellent blades that mount to leather sheath of the Bravo 1

My barkie PSK was scary scary sharp. One of the sharpest knives I have ever held. The blade was mirror polished and stropped up real good on a magazine cover til it could shave a gnats aZZ just by pointing it at him.

I'm trying to decide what to get - but I think I will choose another Barkie after all

I have a BRKT custom wharncliffe EDC that I like as a carving companion to my Bravo-1. You can get one here or here.

if you're looking for a smnall knife to piggy back than try the brusletto balder or the brusletto spikienkniv.

For carving, it's hard to beat the Mora carving knives. I have several and razor sharp is just how I would describe them. I know a couple of wood carvers that sell at the wood craft shows around here and 90 percent of their carving is done with the mora carving knives.

A mora, a custom puukko style, a spearpoint with a scandi edge. It's hard to beat a really good thin claded scandi for easy sharpening. I know a few people who are swearing by a scandi edge and a dmt diamond hone.

Convex edges are easy to keep sharp on the trail, too. strop strop strop.

If you go folder, get a lockblade, regardless of anything else.

BRK&T makes alot of really small knives that would be good for the tasks you mentioned, the trickle and micro-canadian come to mind. plus you could get it in a matching handle materiel.

I would also have to recommend a scandi. VERY easy to sharpen, and you can usually get smaller ones that are lightweight. You should browse through www.ragweedforge.com scroll down to see a list of manufacturers to look through.

i think i recall a knife called the grandma knife that was very small, had a scandi edge and looked great for a carving/small task type of knife
