Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and I have a quick question. I recently purchased an RC-4 and I love the knife. I'm thinking about going with a fixed blade for EDC and I'd love to get the RC-3 for that purpose. Does anyone EDC the RC-3 and if so how do you do so and conceal it? Boot maybe? I'd like to carry it on my belt but the handle seems too large.

Thanks,
Doug

pocket sheath adirondack or the hunter from the knife connection or knife ship free.i edc my rc-4 in front right pocket

I EDC my RC-3 paracorded to my belt, it rides high but you get used to it and it keeps it out of sight if you wear your t shirt out.

Oh and welcome

wrong post... my bad.
On a better note, just ordered my first RAT knife tonight! A RC-3DT

Front pocket or back pocket with my shirt untucked - just seems to disappear :D

Great EDC blade though its really not TOO much smaller than the RC4 - just a heck of a lot lighter.

Depending on what you use your EDC for and how frequently, you may also want to consider the Izula for EDC - its actually a THICKER blade than the RC3 but a much MUCH smaller package!

With an Izula there would be less overlap with the RC4.

With that said, you will most likely end up w the RC3, 4 and Izula :D

They all rock.

mecteck, I'm assuming you paracorded horizontally? I tried the tek lock but it sticks out too far. It holds the knife well horizontally but it just sticks out too much (including the small of back) which is the way a desire to carry. Corded works very well.

I just got an RC3 as well as an Izula. The Para cord method works well with both but the Izula is easier to carry as it is lighter and a little more compact.

Nope, vertical works best for me right behind my Gerber pliers. I tried to wear it horizonal and it seemed to catch on alot of stuff, round bale strings and what not.

I hate California... concealing any fixed blade knife is a crime :(

I'd love to be able to EDC my RC3, not a big fan of walking around with one fully exposed though, never seems to match my shoes :P

Since I got my RC4 I EDC that more than my RC3MIL. The RC3 has been attached to a kit and I just keep an izula in my pocket for smaller tasks.

It would be great if some of you guys would post pictures of how you carry.

There are a lot of pictures with RC's stuck in things or laying on things, but not many examples of carry style.

It would give us newbees an idea of size, etc.

Rat Cutlery RC-3

I've been searching for a smaller fixed blade knife that is compact enough to be carried everywhere, but is big enough to fill my hand and accomplish any cutting task that I might need it for. With the RAT RC-3, I've found the perfect fixed blade carry knife.

The RC-3 has a razor sharp 3.5” drop point blade with a lot of belly, a handy finger choil, and very nice jimping on the back of the blade. The choil allows the user to choke up on the blade for fine work, and the jimping makes for a very secure grip when the knife is held in a “Fillipino” grip.

The handle is lightly checkered micarta, which is grippy but doesn't catch on clothing. It is also just wide enough to get a solid grip, but thin enough to disappear under an untucked t-shirt.

The sheath that came with the RC3 allows for many different types of attachment. I experimented and found that a doubled up length of paracord laced through the holes in the sheath holds the sheath securely to my 1.75” belt, and pulls the handle of the knife tight to my side so that it won't print when worn with an untucked shirt. (The problem that I had with other small fixed blade knives is that when the blade is too short it doesn't allow a properly designed holster to press the handle tightly to the body. No issues like that with the RC-3)

What I like the most about the RC-3 is that it is just big enough, but not too big. When held, in forward or reverse grip, the 3.5” blade allows plenty of reach, but the knife is small, flat and light enough to carry comfortably.

I highly recommend the RAT RC-3 to anyone looking for a tough fixed blade knife that is just big enough to use but not too big to carry comfortably.

Thanks for the info guys. I see the Izula was mentioned as an alternative but not the H.E.S.T. Is the H.E.S.T. not good for EDC?

Hest I edc. Because it's legal size in my State. I also Edc the Izula(S) the sametime. Izula is always with my backpack and one with my toolbelt.

I think I'm in the minority on the HEST as an EDC and easily prefer my Izula or RC3.

Here are my thoughts on the HEST from a previous thread:

On the HEST, from an EDC standpoint, I really dislike the tiny wirecutter notch on the HEST - it has gotten in the way a few times cutting plastic and I cant really choke up on it due to no usable choil. Also, I cant imagine the reaction to me taking out my HEST to pop a beer at the bar...

With that said, I have always seen the HEST as not an EDC blade but more of what it is designed for (and excels at): a Hostile Environment Survival Tool for when you dont give a shi*t about a usable choil but might need to snip through a fence to save your life...

I think the HEST is a perfect addition to any BOB

Here is a good thread on HEST vs. RC3 for EDC - I know your Q was on Izula vs. HEST but, it still gives good insight: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678922

Even an Izula?

Yes, even an Izula. California's weapons laws are so convoluted that you pretty much have to be a Lawyer, or just never leave the house, in order to not break the law inadvertently....

It essentially says that ANY item that can be readily used for stabbing can not be carried concealed. So, technically a screwdriver can get you nabbed for this... I think it was just implemented to slap gangbangers with extra charges, and if you are just a regular Joe you SHOULD be fine, but you never know...

BUT you can also OPENLY carry anything you want. Openly carry your Izula, or openly carry your 5 foot long Bastard Sword... doesn't matter(some local laws ban length of blades, only LA county that I know of)

You can also conceal any sized folding blade you want, like those big ColdSteel vaqueros with 6" blades....

Cliff Notes: I need to move out of Cali, sorry for the quick threadjack :D
